Doctrine of the Angelic Conflict, part 58 – The essence of God – Omnipotence. Phi 4:13; Eph 1:19;

Class Outline:

Title: Doctrine of the Angelic Conflict, part 58 - The essence of God - Omnipotence. PHI 4:13; EPH 1:19;

J. Omnipotence: God possesses unlimited power and is always in control.

We can be out of control unless we willingly place ourselves under His control by means of the FHS and BD.

PHI 4:10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.

PHI 4:11 Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

PHI 4:12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.

PHI 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me [present active participle of endunamoo - who keeps pouring His power into me].

All three members of the Trinity possess the same unlimited power.

Amazingly, God has shared this power with every CA believer.

EPH 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

EPH 1:19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might

EPH 1:20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

EPH 1:21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come.

EPH 1:22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church,

EPH 1:23 which is His body, the fulness of Him who fills all in all.

So there is a surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.

 “power” - du,namij[dunamis - noun] = power, might, ability, or force.

119 uses in the NT. Hundreds of uses in the Septuagint - dunamis is equated with 26 Hebrew terms.

It is used for the power of God:

MAT 22:29

But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures, or the power of God.

Power of Jesus Christ:

1CO 5:4

In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,

Power of the Holy Spirit:

ROM 15:9

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Power of the gospel:

ROM 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Power of the Cross:

1CO 1:18

For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Our opposition also has power, but not infinite or divine power, ROM 8:38.

ROM 8:26 And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

ROM 8:27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

This shows us that we never really do know what it is that we need. But we ask in prayer and God the HS asks along side with a corrected version. His version is always answered.

ROM 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

ROM 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren;

ROM 8:30 and whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

ROM 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

ROM 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?

ROM 8:33 Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies;

ROM 8:34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

ROM 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

ROM 8:36 Just as it is written,[PSA 44:22]

"For Thy sake we are being put to death all day long;

We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

Just as it was done to Israel it is today done to God’s people. God’s opposition seeks to destroy God’s people.

ROM 8:37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

ROM 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

ROM 8:39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able [dunamai - verb] to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God’s opposition has some power, but are not strong enough to undo anything that God does. Power only succumbs to greater power and then only reluctantly.

MAR 13:24 "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light,

MAR 13:25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.

MAR 13:26 "And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power [much greater power] and glory.

MAR 13:27 "And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth, to the farthest end of heaven.

1PE 3:21 And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you —  not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience [deliverance from sin, paid for and wiped away, no more guilt, like the woman who wept on the Lord’s feet] —  through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

1PE 3:22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.

Jesus Christ is the only man to effectively use all the power that the Father had given Him, LUK 24:19.

LUK 24:19 [road to Emmaus] And He said to them, "What things?" And they said to Him, "The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,

 “mighty” - dunato,j[dunatos - adjective] = having power, mighty, capable, and possible.

His miracles were a manifestation of the power of God.

MAT 11:20 Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His miracles [dunamis] were done, because they did not repent.

I can’t perform miracles [mighty works] as Jesus did but you can be the result of many miracles, i.e. regenerated, learning to love, laying down your life, genuine humility, happiness, peace, etc.

The miracles of Jesus:

1.Cast out demon - God’s power can remove your demons [OSN weaknesses, false doctrines] from ruling your soul.

A believer cannot be demon possessed, but he can be demon influenced.

He was baptized, was led into the wilderness, and then went to His home town to announce His arrival, they tried to throw Him off a cliff, and so, with the disciples He has so far, He walks over to Capernaum.

LUK 4:31 And He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And He was teaching them on the Sabbath;

LUK 4:32 and they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.

LUK 4:33 And there was a man in the synagogue possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

LUK 4:34 "Ha! [an interjection of fear, surprise or anger] What do we have to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are —  the Holy One of God!"

Could they be mocking Him? Probably not because they know His power. He is just as powerful over our weakness, flaws, sins, and wrong thinking. He can draw it all out of us as we grow, learn, and exercise faith.

LUK 4:35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him without doing him any harm.

LUK 4:36 And amazement came upon them all, and they began discussing with one another saying, "What is this message? For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."

LUK 4:37 And the report about Him was getting out into every locality in the surrounding district.

God can remove the rulership of your demons.

2. Healing of Peter’s mother in law. God’s power can remove the sickness of a stressed soul, LUK 4:38-39.

God’s power can make you love your mother in law.

LUK 4:38 And He arose and left the synagogue, and entered Simon's home. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever; and they made request of Him on her behalf.

LUK 4:39 And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she immediately arose and waited on them.

3. Catching of fish. God’s power can fulfil a destiny in your life that is beyond dreams, LUK 5:1-11.

LUK 5:1 Now it came about that while the multitude were pressing around Him and listening to the word of God, He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret;

LUK 5:2 and He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them, and were washing their nets.

LUK 5:3 And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the multitudes from the boat.

LUK 5:4 And when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch."

LUK 5:5 And Simon answered and said, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at Your bidding I will let down the nets."

LUK 5:6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish; and their nets began to break;

LUK 5:7 and they signaled to their partners in the other boat, for them to come and help them. And they came, and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink.

LUK 5:8 But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus' feet, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"

Christ’s cross is going to take care of all of that, so even though that is in the future Christ can take Peter along and prepare him for His great destiny. Does Peter have even a clue what the Lord is going to do with him?

LUK 5:9 For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken;

LUK 5:10 and so also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men."

LUK 5:11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.
