The power of the angels:

PSA 103:20

Bless the Lord, you His angels,

Mighty in strength, who perform His word,

Obeying the voice of His word!

In Revelation we read the term “strong angel.” Gabriel means “mighty one of God.” And among their ranks we find the designation “powers.”

However, what is true of all creatures relative to the power they exert is equally true of the angels: their power is derived from God alone.

Their power, however great, is restricted. They are unable to do those things which are peculiar to Deity—create, act without means, or search the human heart. They may influence the human mind as one creature may influence another.

Their power, however great, is derived from God and is restricted. They cannot create, act without means, or search the human heart.

They cannot read your thoughts or do anything in regards to you without God’s consent. Even through the fallen angels would love to control the believer from within by means of indwelling, they cannot.

They cannot know your thoughts, but they are very good at manipulation as any person with the knowledge of how to do so can influence another. The extent of influence is directly proportional to how weak the person’s mind is in reference to the mind of Christ.

Weak believers are easily influenced by the works of fallen angels yet still they cannot indwell or even see the thoughts of a believer.

The fallen angels can possess an unbeliever as we have seen, but not against his will. The unbeliever, like Judas Iscariot, must give assent through severe reversionistic tendencies. Yet as we have seen in our study of the miracles of Christ, they are ever subject to His authority.

They are definitely stronger than earthly men.

In Revelation we see angels holding the four winds of heaven, discharging the vials, and wielding the thunders of Jehovah’s wrath upon the guilty nations; the whole earth trembles under the displays of their mighty power as the ministers of a sin-avenging God.

But angels are equally powerful for good; and while their holy nature makes them the faithful executors of justice, their benevolence, as well as their holiness, makes them delight to employ their energies in the service of mercy as God directs them in service of those who will inherit salvation.

Remember, you have maybe 50,000 angels able to serve you under God’s command, but that also means that you have 25,000 demon angels who are able to hinder, divide, and deceive you under the rules of the conflict. But don’t be afraid of them for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Classification of the angels:

1.Government rulers. Five major representations of supremacy among angels is mentioned.

a)Thrones - seat of authority

b)Dominions - those who rule

c)Rulers - those who govern

d)Authorities - right to act, supremacy

e)Powers - might or power

Since the Bible does not indulge in needless repetition by stating the same thing over and over again with different words we can conclude that these denominations of the organization of angels are meaningful.

Though similar to human hierarchies, we can assume that heavenly spheres of rule exceed human empires as the universe exceeds the earth by breadth, length, height and width.

Two passages serve to classify them in this manner:

COL 1:16

whether thrones [thronos = seat of authority] or dominions [kuriotes = power; those who rule] or rulers [arche = those who govern] or authorities [exousia = right to act, supremecy].

1PE 3:22

who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities [exousia] and powers [dunamis = power and might] had been subjected to Him.

Therefore, their reality in this particular way corresponds to ours in the different levels of government authority and on one end an organization or government has been enacted which is completely evil.

This evil government of fallen angels and the free will of man suffice to explain the source of evil and stupidity in this world.

1PE 4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;

1PE 4:13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ [undeserved], keep on rejoicing; so that also at the revelation of His glory, you may rejoice with exultation.

How often do I hear believers complain about their circumstances and fail to see them rejoice because they forget this very basic principle about our world and the fallen creatures in it? How often do I hear myself do the same thing? It’s now time to stop that and move on into the higher spheres of understanding.

The elect angels have to deal with satan’s evil government in the same way any elect believer must - all results are in the hands of God.

Jud 9

But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."

ZEC 3:2

And the Lord said to Satan, "The Lord rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you!

No matter what comes against us, all matters are in the hands of the Lord. Simple promises believed make all the difference in even the most complicated issues of life.

PSA 22:6 But I am a worm, and not a man,

A reproach of men, and despised by the people.

PSA 22:7 All who see me sneer at me;

They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying,

PSA 22:8 "Commit yourself to the Lord; let Him deliver him;

Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him."

A beautiful passage prophesising the mocking of our Lord on the cross, and yet even the mouths of evil people state the truth of God’s plan for Christ and us.

PSA 76:10

For the wrath of man shall praise Thee;

PSA 31:1 In Thee, O Lord, I have taken refuge;

Let me never be ashamed;

In Thy righteousness deliver me.

PSA 31:2 Incline Thine ear to me, rescue me quickly;

Be Thou to me a rock of strength,

A stronghold to save me.

PSA 31:3 For Thou art my rock and my fortress;

For Thy name's sake Thou wilt lead me and guide me.

PSA 31:4 Thou wilt pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me; For Thou art my strength.

PSA 31:5 Into Thy hand I commit my spirit;

Thou hast ransomed me, O Lord, God of truth.

We will acknowledge that at times they do war with one another, elect vs. fallen, but that is only at the command of God.

Elect and fallen angels do war with one another:

DAN 10:13

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

REV 12:7-8

And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. And the dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.

We continue to classify the angels…

2. Elect angels. The angels who remained obedient to God were elected or chosen. It is unknown how this election relates to the election of Christ, the nation Israel, or the CA believer.

1TI 5:21

I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality.

The elect angels have a well defined organization. They are created to glorify God; they perform various duties in heaven and on earth: heralding and issuing divine plans and policy for human history, executing declarations and judgments, battling demonic hordes as combatants in God’s heavenly army, and ministering to believers on earth.

3.There are three specific types of elect angels: Cherubim, Seraphim, and Living Creatures.

Cherubim(pl)cherub(s) are referred to 92 times in 13 books, all OT except for Hebrews(which is a reference to the cherubim above the mercy seat of the ark of the covenant.

(Gen, Exo, Num, 1Sa, 2Sa, 1Ki, 2Ki, 1Ch, 2Ch, Psa Isa, Eze, and Heb).

Cherubim - name means “to hold fast.” They are closely related to the throne of God as defenders of His holy character.

The cherubim title speaks of their high and holy position and their responsibility as such is closely related to the throne of God as defenders of His holy character and presence.
