Title: Angelic Conflict part 70: Angelology 101 - 2KI 6:17; HEB 1:14; MAT 18:10; PSA 103:19-21; GEN 3:1-7; 2CO 2:11; JOB 1:6-12; 2:1-6.

The word angel is found some 300 times in the Bible - 120 times in the OT and 180 times in the NT. Therefore angelology is a significant study.

The word of God begins and ends its account by referring to angels, GEN 3:24; REV 22:16.

GEN 3:24

So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim, and the flaming sword which turned every direction, to guard the way to the tree of life.

REV 22:16

"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star."

What practical benefits can we gain by a study of the angels?

Angels have been used to comfort believers, 2KI 6:17

2KI 6:15 Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"

2KI 6:16 So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."

2KI 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, "O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." And the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

HEB 1:14

Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?  good and bad angel theory evolved from this.

MAT 18:10

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you, that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father who is in heaven.

Elect angels praise God, serve God, and are messengers of God and so they give us an example (though we are higher than angels) of what an elect creature does.

LUK 2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

LUK 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."

HEB 1:6

And when He again brings the first-born into the world, He says,

" And let all the angels of God worship Him."

PSA 103:19 The Lord has established His throne in the heavens;

And His sovereignty rules over all.

PSA 103:20 Bless the Lord, you His angels,

Mighty in strength, who perform His word,

Obeying the voice of His word!

PSA 103:21 Bless the Lord, all you His hosts,

You who serve Him, doing His will.

PSA 103:22 Bless the Lord, all you works of His,

In all places of His dominion;

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

 DAN 10:10-11

Then behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. And he said to me, "O Daniel, man of high esteem, understand the words that I am about to tell you and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you."

It is sobering to realize that even angels who were close to God succumbed to temptation and fell. And though we cannot lose our salvation, and we are as close to God as any creature can be, being in union with Christ, it is important to remember that we can fall into a lifestyle of darkness even though we are children of light.

1CO 10:12

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Knowledge about evil angels serves to alert us to the danger and the subtlety of temptation which can be expected to come from satanic forces, and gives insight into the devil’s ways of working.

GEN 2:25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

There is a gap of time here which length cannot be known.

GEN 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?"

GEN 3:2 And the woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;

GEN 3:3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.'"

GEN 3:4 And the serpent said to the woman, "You surely shall not die!

GEN 3:5 "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

GEN 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

GEN 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

2CO 2:10 But whom you forgive anything [man recovered from affair with father’s wife], I forgive also; for indeed what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, I did it for your sakes in the presence of Christ,

2CO 2:11 in order that no advantage be taken of us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

We receive confidence from the realization that powerful though satan and his accomplices are, there are definite limits upon what they can do. We can, therefore, by the grace of God, resist him successfully. And we can know that his ultimate defeat is certain.

JOB 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.

JOB 1:7 And the Lord said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the Lord and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."

JOB 1:8 And the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil."

JOB 1:9 Then Satan answered the Lord, "Does Job fear God for nothing?

JOB 1:10 "Hast Thou not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

JOB 1:11 "But put forth Thy hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse Thee to Thy face."

JOB 1:12 Then the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.

JOB 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord.

JOB 2:2 And the Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Then Satan answered the Lord and said, "From roaming about on the earth, and walking around on it."

JOB 2:3 And the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to ruin him without cause."

JOB 2:4 And Satan answered the Lord and said, "Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.

JOB 2:5 "However, put forth Thy hand, now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse Thee to Thy face."

JOB 2:6 So the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life."

Communion:

Luke 22:19 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

Ex. 12:23 "For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

Ex. 12:23 "For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

Ex. 12:25 "When you enter the land which the Lord will give you, as He has promised, you shall observe this rite.

Ex. 12:29  Now it came about at midnight that the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of cattle.

Ex. 12:30 Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead.

Ex. 12:31 Then he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, "Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, worship the Lord, as you have said.

ROM 6:6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;    6:7 for he who has died is freed from sin.

ROM 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Peter 1:18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,    1:19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.    1:20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you
