Doctrine of the Angelic Conflict, part 20 – The essence of God – Omniscience.

Class Outline:

Title: Doctrine of the Angelic Conflict, part 20 - The essence of God - Omniscience.

6. The essence of God part 2: Attributes that constitute God and are commuted to beings.

E. Omniscience: God comprehends all things - things past, things present, and things future, and the possible as well as the actual.

God’s perfect knowledge gives Him perfect wisdom, which is the application of knowledge. Whenever He judges or blesses it is always correct, ROM 11:33; 16:27.

He is called the only wise God.

ROM 16:27 to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever. Amen.

ROM 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

Lucifer was once full of God’s wisdom, Ezek 28:12

"You had the seal of perfection,

Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

Arrogance and pride has turned him into the dumbest of God’s creatures, actually believing that he could be like the Most High God, and the same type of problem has happened to the fallen human race in that they think that they are wise and that the gospel and doctrine are foolish.

Satan gained a new wisdom in opposition to God founded in arrogance and in religion. He has indoctrinated mankind in these fields (C1&C2) in his system of the cosmos, 1CO 1:18-31.

This wisdom was new to him but not new to God.

1CO 1:18 For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1CO 1:19 For it is written,

"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,

And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside."

1CO 1:20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

1CO 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached [sarcasm] to save those who believe.

1CO 1:22 For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom;

1CO 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block [crown and not the cross], and to Gentiles foolishness [meekness is weakness],

1CO 1:24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Our only hope to obtain the knowledge and wisdom from God is through the person and work of Christ.

John 1:17-18

grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

In no place has divine wisdom been so displayed as in the plan of redemption. Here God is seen to have solved His greatest of all problems, namely, how He could be just and at the same time be the justifier of sinners.

His solution is revealing of the only wise God and His willingness to carry out the solution is revealing of His complete confidence in His own integrity.

1CO 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1CO 1:26 For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble [in the ways of the cosmos];

1CO 1:27 but God has chosen the foolish things of the world [not PhDs from cosmic U] to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,

1CO 1:28 and the base things of the world and the despised, God has chosen, the things that are not, that He might nullify the things that are,

1CO 1:29 that no man should boast before God [I delivered myself through my own wisdom].

1CO 1:30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,

1CO 1:31 that, just as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord." [I am what I am by the grace of God]

Scripture concerning the omniscience of God:

1 Sam 2:3

"Boast no more so very proudly,

Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth;

For the Lord is a God of knowledge,

And with Him actions are weighed.

In other words, He knows exactly who you are so quit the boasting and arrogance. You might be fooling some people but you’re never fooling Him, and He is the only One with whom you’ll have to ultimately deal with.

2 Chron 16:9

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.

You’re never out of His sight, no matter what your physical eyes see. All things work together for good to those that love Him.

JOB 23:10

But He knows the way I take;

When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

This is the testing of purity. Dokimazo means to be tested to show purity. If you have doctrine in your soul, rely upon it, it will shine forth as the very power of God.

JOB 26:6

"Naked is Sheol before Him

And Abaddon has no covering.

No evil is hidden from His sight and He is dealing with it according to His own perfect integrity. No weapon formed against the positive believer will prosper.

JOB 31:4

"Does He not see my ways,

And number all my steps?

Though it may seem dark at times as you may not know where the application of doctrine is taking you, know and believe that God sees every way and carefully places each step. All things work together for good for those who love Him.

JOB 34:21

"For His eyes are upon the ways of a man,

And He sees all his steps.

JOB 37:16

"Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds,

The wonders of one perfect in knowledge,

What we cannot hope to see, God easily sees, and all of history, including your circumstances are fully before His eyes.

JOB 42:2

I know that Thou canst do all things,

And that no purpose of Thine can be thwarted.

So many passages about the omniscience of God are in Job, because while Job was griping and complaining, it was brought to his attention that God knew his problems.

Ps 92:5

How great are Thy works, O Lord!

Thy thoughts are very deep.

Ps 104:24

 O Lord, how many are Thy works!

In wisdom Thou hast made them all;

The earth is full of Thy possessions.

It’s not yours or anyone’s stuff here on earth. It all belongs to God and He knows where everything is and He is using all of it to His good pleasure.

Ps 136:5

To Him who made the heavens with skill,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

All patterns are a part of His perfect plans from EP.

Ps 139:1-2

O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me.

Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up;

Thou dost understand my thought from afar.

Ps 147:4

He counts the number of the stars;

He gives names to all of them.

Prov 3:19

The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;

By understanding He established the heavens.

This place is not the result of an arbitrary big bang or fortunate evolution. It took omniscience to put this grand stage of the AC together and OS will see its progression and end to bring maximum glory to God, which glory is shared with His elect.

ISA 42:9

"Behold, the former things have come to pass,

Now I declare new things;

Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you."

All prophecy is fulfilled literally and the Bible is the only book that does so since it is divinely inspired from omniscience.

ISA 45:4

"For the sake of Jacob [liar, deceiver] My servant,

And Israel [prince with God] My chosen one,

I have also called you by your name;

I have given you a title of honor

Though you have not known Me.

Not one shall be lost, no matter how many attacks satan and the KOD brings. No one shall be able to snatch them out of His hand.

ISA 66:18

"For I know their works and their thoughts; the time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory.

JER 16:17

"For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity concealed from My eyes.

JER 51:15

It is He who made the earth by His power,

Who established the world by His wisdom,

And by His understanding He stretched out the heavens.

Ezek 11:5

 Then the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and He said to me, "Say, 'Thus says the Lord," So you think, house of Israel, for I know your thoughts.

Matt 6:4

that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

Reward is not with man who sees but with God who sees all. Give with no thought of recognition or glory to self.

Matt 6:8

"Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him.

You’re not heard because of your many words or because you pray in a certain vocabulary that sounds holy. When you ask, be plain, He is your Father who sees your thoughts and already knew what you needed, whether you can phrase it properly or not.

Matt 6:32

"For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

Matt 10:29-30

"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

ROM 11:33

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

The imagery here is wonderful. Throughout our Christian lives, learning doctrine, we keep lowering our invisible rope and each knot, representing a fathom, keeps disappearing below the surface of the water that is doctrine. Each week, month, year another knot sinks in and we become astounded at just how deep the wisdom and knowledge of God goes. Some assume they know how deep it is without lowering their ropes, assuming it to be shallow, so why bother. But for those who really do want to know how deep it goes, to them the rewards for probing the depths of God’s wisdom and knowledge are above and beyond what they ever imagined. God has given each believer a rope, knotted at intervals, the length of which he cannot see and he has set him on an anchored ship and has invited him to probe the depths of God’s wisdom. Those who do are wonderfully surprised and amazed.

You’ve might have said or had heard someone say, “I’m at the end of my rope,” the rope that God has so graciously given you has no end and it is your personal measuring rope and it will find for you the depths of God’s personality. He found a way to do that through His Son, so stop thinking that this rope has an end, cause it doesn’t. When you think it does is when you start putting God in your own boxes, and that’s not a place where eternity can reside.

HEB 6:17 In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,

HEB 6:18 in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us.

HEB 6:19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,

HEB 6:20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Mark 4:35 And on that day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us go over to the other side."

Mark 4:36 And leaving the multitude, they took Him along with them, just as He was, in the boat; and other boats were with Him.

Mark 4:37 And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up.

Mark 4:38 And He Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they  awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"

Mark 4:39 And being aroused, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Hush, be still." And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.

The rebuke indicates that satan sent this storm in some way in order to destroy the lot of them. He will do the same to you and me in the hope of taking our calmness and faith rest in the word of God and creating storm and turmoil in our souls. The upset sea represents upset doctrine swashing around in the soul rather than circulating in calm remembrance, ready for application.

Mark 4:40 And He said to them, "Why are you so timid? How is it that you have no faith?"

Mark 4:41 And they became very much afraid and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"

The results of our fall, inherent in our old nature, is fear of the unhealthy kind as our original fallen parents experienced.

EPH 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;

EPH 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ.

EPH 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

EPH 4:15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ,

EPH 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

EPH 1:18-19

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.
