Solutions to stumbling blocks – God’s divinely inspired book, part 5; John 16:1.

Title: Solutions to stumbling blocks - God’s divinely inspired book, part 5; John 16:1.

What we have noted so far shows that there is no other alternative for the one who questions the divine origin of the Scriptures.

This is the reason why we are doing this study at this time, for God asks us to believe in Him for eternal life and for the life beyond dreams every day after. They grumbled at Christ for claiming to be God in John 6 and they laughed at Him when He spoke with authority.

Mark 5:21 And when Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered about Him; and He stayed by the seashore.

Mark 5:22 And one of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up, and upon seeing Him, fell at His feet,

Mark 5:23 and entreated Him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, that she may get well and live."

Mark 5:24 And He went off with him; and a great multitude was following Him and pressing in on Him.

Mark 5:35 While He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, "Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?"

Mark 5:36 But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid any longer, only believe."

Mark 5:37 And He allowed no one to follow with Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

Mark 5:38 And they came to the house of the synagogue official; and He  beheld a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.

Mark 5:39 And entering in, He said to them, "Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep."

Mark 5:40 And they began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child's father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was.

This type of laughing is flippancy. It is laughing at someone or something when there was no joke made or anything funny at all. It is a laughing that dismisses all absolutes and all virtues. A lot of flippancy makes for a hard exterior on a person into which truth has a hard time penetrating.

Mark 5:41 And taking the child by the hand, He said to her, "Talitha [tal-ee-thah`] kum!" (which translated means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!").

Mark 5:42 And immediately the girl rose and began to walk; for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.

Mark 5:43 And He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this; and He said that something should be given her to eat.

Though they are not laughing anymore, they are so excited that they neglect to think about the little girl’s needs, even her parents fail to see that the girl is extremely hungry as she probably hasn’t eaten in days. Our Lord shows here that the slightest need of His own are never overlooked by Him.

Be careful of the flippant laugh in the face of truth that may at the time seem incredible or impossible.

Luke 1:37

For nothing will be impossible with God.

TYPES WITH THEIR ANTITYPES. A type is a divinely framed person, object, or event that portrays symbolically its antitype.

More often than not the antitype is Jesus Christ. For example: the Tabernacle, the elements in it, Joseph, David, etc.

A type is a divinely framed delineation which portrays its antitype. It is God’s own illustration of His truth drawn by His own hand. The type and the antitype are related to each other by the fact that the connecting truth or principle is embodied in each. It is not the prerogative of the type to establish the truth of a doctrine; it rather enhances the force of the truth as set forth in the antitype.

On the other hand, the antitype serves to lift the type out of the commonplace into that which is transcendental, and to invest it with riches and treasures hitherto unrevealed. The Passover-Lamb type floods the redeeming grace of Christ with richness of meaning, while the redemption itself invests the Passover-Lamb type with all its marvelous significance.

The continuity of the Scriptures, prophecy and its fulfilment, and types with their antitypes, are the three major factors which not only serve to exhibit the unity of the two Testaments and, like woven threads running from one Testament to the other, bind them into one fabric, but serve to trace the design which by its marvellous character glorifies the Designer.

A true type is the counterpart of its antitype, and, being specifically devised by God, is a vital part of revelation and inspiration. The type to which bibliology would be an antitype would be Christ’s seamless inner garment. Even if the human mind could conceive the marvels of the antitype (which it could never do), it could not draw the pattern found in the type nor invent the manifold details often incorporating many particulars and expansive circumstances which are a part of ancient history.

Ps 22:6

But I am a worm, and not a man,

A reproach of men, and despised by the people.

“worm” - towla = the female worm coccus ilicis. Crimson dye is made from the dried body.

Ex 26:31 And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman.

The veil is made of fine linen dyed into three different colors.

Blue represents the vast heavens and is therefore a type of deity.

John 6:41

"I am the bread that came down out of heaven."

John 3:13

"And no one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven, even the Son of Man.

Interestingly gold is also used in the tabernacle to depict deity and the gold is always linked to blue linen.

Ex 28:6 They shall also make the ephod [sleeveless vest] of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet [this order never changes] material and fine twisted linen, the work of the skillful workman.

Ex 28:8 And the skillfully woven band [girdle], which is on it, shall be like its workmanship, of the same material: of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen.

Ex 28:15 And you shall make a breastpiece of judgment, the work of a skillful workman; like the work of the ephod you shall make it: of gold, of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen you shall make it.

This order of colors is repeated no less than 24 times in Exodus and the order never changes.

The conjunction “and” is omitted between the gold and blue; so that the passages may be read as follows: of gold, blue, and purple and scarlet.

The same order is precisely repeated in chap. 39:2, 5, 8, the ‘and’ being again omitted between the gold and blue.

Clasps of gold were inserted into loops of blue, connecting together the curtains of the Tabernacle. Laces of blue, passing through rings of gold, fastened the breast-plate to the ephod, and a lace of blue bound the golden plate to the mitre of the high priest. The golden vessels of the sanctuary, with the exception of the ark [which was not all gold], were all covered with a cloth of blue. If the gold was a type of the glory, majesty, and eternity of the Son of God, blue will fitly represent the grace and love He manifested as declaring the character of God. It was love that brought Him through the heavens.

Ex 26:31 And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman.

Scarlet - towla shaniy [shaw-nee] = towla is the worm and shaniy is the crimson color. It represents the redemptive work of Christ.

The kings of the ancient world wore this color, the red coats of the British army and even santa clause. The beast of the tribulation is clothed in scarlet as is the woman who represents his universal church. This is not to say that scarlet means evil but that it means kingship.

John 18:37

Pilate therefore said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

Yet Christ is no king unless He fulfils His mission on the cross, so the scarlet also represents His blood, His perfect substitutionary spiritual death.

Matt 27:28-29

And they stripped Him, and put a scarlet robe on Him. And after weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they kneeled down before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

Yet as PSA 22:6 iterates, the Lord becomes the worm that is crushed to make dye for the robes of other kings.

John 12:24

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

ISA 1:18

"Come now, and let us reason together,"

Says the Lord, "Though your sins are as scarlet [shaniy],

They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

This scarlet dye soaks so well into wool that it is impossible to get it all out, but not impossible with God.

REV 19:6 "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

REV 19:7 "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready."

REV 19:8 And it was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

[skip down]REV 19:11 And I saw heaven opened; and behold, a white horse, and He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True; and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

REV 19:12 And His eyes are a flame of fire, and upon His head are many diadems; and He has a name written upon Him which no one knows except Himself.

REV 19:13 And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God.

REV 19:14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

REV 19:15 And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may smite the nations; and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.

REV 19:16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

Adam lost his kingship over the earth to satan who was more crafty than any beast of the field, whom Adam ruled [Adam wilfully handed over rule to satan], and the last Adam took it back.

And why are we clean?

HEB 10:19 Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

HEB 10:20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,

HEB 10:21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

HEB 10:22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience [no condemnation - cross] and our bodies washed with pure water [BD].

Towla worm pic. She climbs the tree, attaches herself to the tree, lays her eggs underneath so they are protected and then she dies.

Ex 26:31 And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman.

Purple is a secondary color made from red and blue. Always listed second, it depicts the hypostatic union. Jesus Christ is undiminished deity and true humanity in one person forever.

Purple was also a royal color and also depicts kingship; the God Man is King of kings and Lord of lords.

We have all together His three royal warrants; Son of God, King of the Jews, and King of kings and Lord of lords.

The worm is crushed to make dye, the grain of wheat crushed between millstones to make flour for bread[bread of life], wine made from crushed grapes [the cup I’m about to drink - wine makes men’s hearts glad, preserved water, sign of prosperity], oil made from crushed olives [Gethsemane - softens wounds, gives light to the house, cooking?].

Gethsemane = “oil press”. We see the bread of life, scarlet blood oozing from His pores, contemplating the cup of winesins of the whole world in a place called the oil press.

ISA 53:5

But He was pierced through for our transgressions,

He was crushed for our iniquities;

The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,

And by His scourging we are healed.

The tearing of the veil represents His separation or tearing from His own deity as well as the Father’s.

We must not adhere to man’s vacillating interpretations of doctrines that are false, but to the word of God as it is clearly presented with the great faith of its divine origin.

Tabernacle, ark, Passover, unleavened bread, first fruits, Pentecost, Joseph, Moses, David, etc.

Thus typology as incorporated in the Bible demonstrates the Bible to be such a book as man could not write if he would. It is divine in its origin as it is superhuman in its character.

Other, so-called, holy books do not have these things.

THE BIBLE AS LITERATURE. It is to be expected that the literature created to convey God’s message to man, regardless of secondary causes and agencies, would be worthy of the divine Author.

As a means for the transmitting of thought, the reducing of a language to writing is an achievement of surpassing importance. It is reasonable and to be expected that God, in communication with man, would put His message into human form. How else could it be either pondered or preserved? It is equally to be expected that the literature thus created, regardless of secondary causes and agencies, would be worthy of the divine Author.

This aspect of the Bible’s priority even the unregenerate may profitably consider.

As might be anticipated, the observations of all the scholarship in the world in general, whether sympathetic or unsympathetic, have agreed upon the one conclusion that, as literature, the Bible is paramount. It is evident, however—and this is not sufficiently considered—,
