Title: Identifying the cosmic system, part 8 John 15:19; 1John 2:13-14.

1 John 2:13 I am writing to you, fathers [first believers, probably eye witnesses of Christ and mature believers], because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one [poneros]. I have written to you, children [new converts], because you know the Father.

1 John 2:14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong [divinely powerful], and the word of God abides [meno - abides = divinely virtuous] in you, and you have overcome the evil one [poneros].

“and you have overcome the evil one” is the connective use of the conjunction kai, plus the perfect active indicative of the verb nikao which means to win.

This is exactly what is happening on the battlefield.

Those who remain on the battlefield will always win because they are pluggers with doctrine.

“Overcome” is simply a synonym for winning — “and you have defeated [won over] the evil one.”

Those who retreat from doctrine retreat from the battle. How can you win if you’re not even on the battlefield? There is not one reason in the entire world that legitimizes retreating from the doctrine that is taught by your assigned PT. Not one! People quit because they want to quit. They find excuses so they can assuage the conviction that God the HS is enacting in their hearts. There will be no excuses when you stand before Christ in heaven. He will ask of you, “What did you do with the legacy that I left behind?”

“overcome” - nika,w[nikao - perfect active indicative] = you have won with the result that you will continue to spiritual maturity.

The dramatic perfect tense refers to tremendous momentum towards maturity.

This indicates that there is a critical mass of doctrine that when reached the believer has so much momentum that spiritual maturity is just about guaranteed. We must say “just about” since we can never say so with absolutes, but this is about as close to absolute as one can be. There is a confidence that nothing will stop you now.

Paul had this as he wrote from prison to the Philippians.

Phil 1:20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I shall not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ shall even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

Phil 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain [profit].

Phil 1:22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.

Phil 1:23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ [he’s seen Christ and seen heaven already], for that is very much better;

Phil 1:24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

Phil 1:25 And convinced of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,

Phil 1:26 so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.

Phil 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect [mature], but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus [realized election].

Phil 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,

Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Paul had quite a few failures in the past and a real, real big failure in the recent past, but he would not look back to the failures or look into the souls or words of those who were always ready to remind him of them. He looked forward. There is nothing more important to the believer than to reach spiritual maturity and realize the fulfillment of his election in Christ.

The cosmos teaches reconciliation to men in the form of going to all the people you’ve hurt or failed and apologizing or getting retribution for victimization. Divine viewpoint is to leave the past where it is and be reconciled to God first and foremost.

Return to:

1 John 2:14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong [divinely powerful], and the word of God abides [meno - abides = divinely virtuous] in you, and you have overcome the evil one [poneros].

The dramatic perfect of “overcome” - nika, walways emphasizes victory over distractions from the cosmic system. These are the people for whom the command “love not the cosmic system” is not given; they have already passed that point. [example]

The active voice: the advancing believer produces the action. The indicative mood is declarative for the reality of victory over the distractions of the cosmic system.

Neither people nor false teachings have lured the advancing believer from the straight path of his momentum, the daily function of doctrinal metabolization and its application.

By use of doctrinal orientation along with the three stages of the faith-rest drill the nikao have met the thought problems [tests].

Thought testing occurs when false principles are projected at your soul. They may come from others or they may have been sitting dormant like eggs in the brain just waiting for the right time to hatch. These are not obvious falsehoods since that wouldn’t be a test. They are counterfeits that have some truth mixed with lies and deception.

They project to the soul and the believer through the use of doctrinal orientation and the faith rest drill must make them captive by putting them in the soul’s trash can.

2 Cor 10:5

We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ [mind of Christ],

By switching to impersonal love the nikao have been able to meet every possible type of personnel distraction, personality conflict, or people testing. If they have loved ones who have gone astray, they do not follow them.

John 6:66 As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew, and were not walking with Him anymore.

John 6:67 Jesus said therefore to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?"

John 6:68 Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

John 6:69 "And we have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God."

Mr. open mouth and insert foot was a plugger and the Lord saw it in Him. For this reason the Lord knew he wouldn’t quit and thusly promoted him.

Luke 22:31-32

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail [fall away from doctrine]; and you, when once you have turned again [rebound and recover], strengthen your brothers.”

And finally, we will repeat the warning that is given mostly to the infants and the children, but also, as always, it is a warning to all believers of all ages and levels.

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

God had provided for man’s desires in the Garden and He continues to do so now right within the confines or boundaries of His plan.

GEN 2:9

And out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.

1 John 3:8 the one who practices [does or commits] sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

The doing or committing of a sin is the reverse of psychosomatics, which the soul controlling the body. Here we have the body or flesh controlling the soul through OSN control so it is somapsychotics.

Temptation is the OSN knocking on the gate of the soul. Sin occurs when the volition opens the gate for OSN control of the soul.

Temptation is when the OSN makes a strong attack on the soul that is filled with the Spirit. These war with one another for control and you’re volition decides each battle.

GAL 5:17

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
