Title: Identifying the cosmic system, part 2; John 15:19; .

John 15:18 "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.

John 15:19 "If you were of [from] the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you

It is stated here that the world can either love or hate.

“love” is phileo which is a love of attraction, rapport, and affection.

The object of their love are their own; those who have a certain level of agreement with their system of thinking.

The object of their hate are elected ones, “I chose you out of the world.” Chose is a technical doctrinal word for election in Christ, a subject that we have already studied.

Every believer has been elected to receive God’s highest and best and so the hated ones are those that are realizing the fulfillment of their election by executing the plan of God for their lives.

Realizing my fulfilled election in Christ is far, far more important than whatever problems come my way due the hatred of the cosmos.

Election is out from one place and unto another. The believer is elected out from the current, popular plan of the world and unto the plan of God. The more he executes God’s plan the more distinctive he becomes from the world system.

James 4:1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members?

James 4:2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.

James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Verses 1-3 are an accurate description of the cosmos system and the results in people’s lives from submitting to the system and here he is talking about Christians, but it applies to unbelievers as well. A reprieve has been given to the unbeliever in the form of divine establishment laws.

Now, people are not always quarreling, hating, envious, and selfish, but it doesn’t take long before they are. All believer’s have been delivered from this system. There is no need to return to it.

James 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

“friendship” - fili,a[philia] = loving and being loved from an attraction standpoint. “enmity” - e;cqra[echthra] = enmity, enemies, hatred, it is the opposite of agape love.

You can have enmity with the world or with God.

All things work together for good to those that love God and our description of the world system and the results for any believers involved is how things work together for those who are at enmity with God.

James 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"?

Why does the HS indwell the body of every CA believer? He makes the body the holy temple of God for the indwelling of the Son and the Father, but what action is the Spirit’s purpose?

John 16:13-15

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. "He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine, and shall disclose it to you. "All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said, that He takes of Mine, and will disclose it to you.

God the HS remains dormant in a negative believer and He is working double time in a positive believer.

James 4:6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

James 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners [rebound and recover from cosmic viewpoint]; and purify your hearts, you double-minded [singularity of thought with the mind of Christ].

James 4:9 Be miserable and mourn and weep [in other words, turn from the cosmic pseudo-happiness]; let your laughter [cosmic pseudo-laughter] be turned into mourning, and your joy [cosmic pseudo-happiness] to gloom.

The command in James 4:9 is to turn from the pseudo-happiness-laughter-pleasure of the cosmos. It is not a command for the believer to be constantly in mourning.

Ascetics love this verse. They become like St. Francis of Assisi and relish the attention they get from it. We are to rejoice the CWL, even in the midst of tribulation and suffering. The cosmos has its own laughter, its own happiness and offerings to fulfill lust.

Phil 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.
