Jesus’ Hospital and Kitchen: All People May Come.
length: 81:33 - taught on May, 25 2025
Class Outline:

Main idea: The Gospel reveals the salvation of Gentiles in the same manner as the Jew, hence Jesus ventured into Gentile areas to minister to them and the Gentiles glorified the God of Israel.
Text: MAT 15:29-39.
Jesus had already been in this area when He cast the legion of demons into the swine (MAT 8:28; MAR 5:19-20).
It appears that they are amazed again. I wonder how amazed we all are at what miracles God has done in our own lives?
This section looks like a repetition of a previous one. Why waste the time and the ink with it? (MAT 14:34-36; 15:29-31)
The difference is that the second instance of healing and feeding is done for Gentiles.
From Gentile region (Tyre and Sidon) to another Gentile region (Decapolis; MAR 7:31).
For Jews and Gentiles, the Lord opens a hospital and a kitchen.
The program of God is not altered because the Jew was fed first (MAR 7:27).
Jew first (Mat 10); OT passages; ROM 1:16-17; ROM 2:9-11.
Jesus did not discriminate.
Historical reasons for discrimination are many.
In the case of Jew / Gentile at this time in history, xenophobia was a root cause.
Jesus did not think the Gentile unclean (NUM 15:15-16).
Opening up the questions: What is real defilement and who can be saved? And then this is directly bookended with the hospital and kitchen for Gentiles.
Pentecost and Cornelius (Act 2; Act 10; ACT 11:17).
Healing and feeding the Gentiles in the same way as the Jews removes the ceremonial / genetic cleansing barrier (set by tradition) between Jew and Gentile, and foresees it being removed forever (EPH 2:11-22; “blood of Christ” vs. 13).
There is no Jew or Gentile; male or female; … (ROM 3:22; 1CO 12:13; COL 3:10-11; GAL 3:26-29).
Application: The reason Jesus did not want to send the people away is because He had compassion on them.
Jesus had compassion on them just as He did with the 5000.
The disciples lack Christ’s compassion as they wanted to send away the 5000.
Disciples for a second time lack compassion, but Jesus is patient with them and always training them. The same is true for you. It is astounding in this context that Jews are serving Gentiles.
Passages on compassion. Emphasize that it is for all, no barriers based on anything.
Why? Mankind alone, all, have been made in God’s image.
It is not talking about the fruits of compassion that matters, but doing it to others, all others.
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?" 27 And he answered and said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." 28 And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live." 29 But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Wishing to justify what? Justify that he did not love any Gentile or Samaritan for ethnic reasons.
To whom do you discriminate? It may not be race. How about type of personality? Economic status? Addiction status? Type of sins? Whom?
Jesus replied and said, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31 "And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 "Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 "But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, 34 and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 "On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.' 36 "Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" 37 And he said, "The one who showed mercy toward him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same." [“you do” - they leave out the pronoun (su poiei - emphasis - Go and YOU do the same.”
