Micah 5:1-6; The Shepherd-King Is the Prince of Peace.

Class Outline:

Thursday December 12, 2024

Main idea: Theme: Being humble and depending on our Shepherd fills the heart with peace.

MIC 5:1 "Now muster yourselves in troops, daughter of troops;

They have laid siege against us;

With a rod they will smite the judge of Israel on the cheek.

Some of the remnant of Israel is behind the wall. There have been and will be times in your life where it feels like your life situation is like this. Holed up behind the wall while a superior enemy surrounds and breathes threats. When fear begins to rise, say, “But …”

MIC 5:2 "But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,

Too little to be among the clans of Judah,

From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.

His goings forth are from long ago,

From the days of eternity."

Micah sees this King as a replacement for the feckless kings of Judah. A King as promised to David, from his house.

MIC 5:3 Therefore He will give them up until the time

When she who is in labor has borne a child.

Then the remainder of His brethren

Will return to the sons of Israel.

Give them up until the time means that they are going to have to wait.

MIC 5:4 And He will arise and shepherd His flock

In the strength of the Lord,

In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God.

And they will remain,

Because at that time He will be great

To the ends of the earth.

His shepherding will be magnificent because it will be done in the splendor of the name of the Lord His God.

He will be great was the promise to David’s name, and here we see the fulfillment.

2SA 7:9

I will make you a great name

MIC 5:5 This One will be our peace.

When the Assyrian invades our land,

When he tramples on our citadels,

Then we will raise against him

Seven shepherds and eight leaders (sheiks) of men.

MIC 5:6

They will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword,

The land of Nimrod at its entrances;

And He will deliver us from the Assyrian

When he attacks our land

And when he tramples our territory.

His career will lead to universal peace and peace will be in the hearts of His own.

He will deliver, not us. The One who is our peace defeats all enemies. All!

Waiting with peace: Depends on your seeing and trusting your Shepherd.

Waiting while being at peace all depends on your knowledge and understanding of the Shepherd, by faith. Trusting Him and living by faith = patience and endurance.

JOH 14:27 If it is His peace it can only come from Him. Seeing Him, trusting Him. Trusting what His word says concerning His enemies and His deliverance.

Trials are your exams.

Waiting is a thing with God, is it not? It is so important that God promises to give these virtues through the Holy Spirit. (GAL 5:22-23)

We can wait while being miserable, bitter, angry, hating, anxious, worried, etc. We, those who have the Holy Spirit within them, can all wait with patience and therefore peace.

The community of God is thrown into a sphere of faith on God who rules history and who governs the times and epochs as He wills.

Waiting with peace because of the Shepherd - JOH 10:1-18

JOH 10:3

"To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”

MIC 2:13

"The breaker goes up before them;

They break out, pass through the gate and go out by it.

So their king goes on before them,

And the Lord at their head."

JOH 10:7-8

So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.  8 "All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.

MIC 2:2

They covet fields and then seize them,

And houses, and take them away.

They rob a man and his house,

A man and his inheritance.

MIC 3:2

"You who hate good and love evil,

Who tear off their skin from them

And their flesh from their bones,

JOH 10:10

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
