Mat 5-6; The Biblical Literary Pattern of 3+1; Adding You to God.

Class Outline:

Sunday July 14, 2024

3+1 is a literary pattern found in significant places.

Gen 1 Six (3x2) days of creation and then +1 Sabbath (shalom).

Psa 19 (+1) is the law given to man.

God gives us His law for these things we so badly desire (PRO 3:18 chokmah (applied wisdom) is a tree of life).

Sermon on the Mount pattern of 3.

Mat 5; You are (3 things): salt, light, keeper and teacher of the law. (Believer’s relation to the world.)

+1: having the heart of the  law (shalom with others - the heart of God concerning mankind).

Makes the commissions of salt, light, and lawkeeper/teacher have deep meaning and divine purpose, and joyful.

Mat 6; You worship in 3 ways (there is more ways to worship than these): give, pray, fast (Believer’s relationship to God).

+1: Seek (and find) His kingdom and righteousness along with treasure in heaven (shalom with God).

Idea: God has gone the extra mile by adding humanity to Himself in order to complete what fallen mankind lacks.

Not just heaven (location and forever in paradise), but life of love, righteousness, joy, power; and all of it eternally sharing them from their only source in the Trinity.

Ultimate 3 + 1 The Trinity added humanity.

Adding man to God is the completeness / fullness of man.

Very few understand what the fulness of man is. What is fullness? (EPH 3:19-20).

The love of Christ that surpasses knowledge: the Son of Man is the ultimate +1. The Trinity added to themselves humanity.

The +1, overflowing love, glorifies the Father by saving and fulfilling the Father’s will for mankind.

Application to you:

Being complete with others: you love, seeing and living the heart of the law of love your neighbor, being like God while being with God.

You love and live heaven on earth, not placing any happiness or ultimate value on things, reputation, earthly freedom.

You maintain your peace even when the other is for war.

Being complete with God: you give, pray, fast … you worship Him knowing the heart of Him.

You find joy in giving and prayer and sacrifice, how? You know that you are seeking and finding the kingdom of heaven.

You know that you are in His presence, like Him, intelligently fellowshipping with the invisible God.

You give as He gives. You speak with Him, entering into conversation. You lay aside the things of the earth in order to hear Him better.
