2 Thess 1:11-12. Yes, He Is Coming Quickly!

Class Outline:

The world is always looking for a hero or at least a leader.

People need leaders, inspiring and heroic.

The mass of mankind seeks to be led. That will never change. Christ is that leader.

To the untrained eye it might seem that God has not been in control of His world. Sins, evils, atrocities happen again and again.

When He comes, He will lead. He will rule. He will be bodily and visibly seen by all.

When the Lord returns it will be like the author of a play walking out onto the stage (to be applauded or booed) - the play is over.

God put mankind on a stage where choices mattered.

Every person would be given the option of salvation that depended upon whether they were willing to obey the gospel. Gospel means “good news” and from the beginning it was proclaimed by God and through many mediators.

He will be glorified in us when He comes again.

2TH 1:10

when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed

Until then He is to be glorified in us now.

2TH 1:11-12

To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The name of the Lord Jesus Christ - all He is in deity, humanity, and Savior / Mediator.

The glorification of His name is obviously more than the letters that make it up. The name is His Person, power, wisdom, reputation, His salvation, His awesomeness …

Life is in His name.

JOH 20:31

you may have life in His name.

His name has been proclaimed since the beginning.

Proclaiming His names throughout history have been many mediators, from Abraham to Moses to David to the prophets to John the Baptist to Christ Himself, the apostles and the church. But who has believed our message? That is the real question of all human history - Who believed the mediators?

The final Servant Song answers that question - “Who has believed our message?

ISA 53:1-3

Who has believed our message?

And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

2 For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,

And like a root out of parched ground;

He has no stately form or majesty

That we should look upon Him,

Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.

3 He was despised and forsaken of men,

A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;

And like one from whom men hide their face

He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

John in his Gospel quotes this passage just before he quotes Jesus:

JOH 12:46

“I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.”

Second Coming

Then, one day, He will be seen by all: bodily, physically, visibly.

His name will be proclaimed by all. He will be physically and bodily seen and heard by every person and every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is the Lord.

REV 19:11-16

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

MAT 24:29-31

"But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

LUK 17:22-24

And He said to the disciples, "The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 "They will say to you, 'Look there! Look here!' Do not go away, and do not run after them. 24 "For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day.

However:

LUK 17:25

“But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.”

He must suffer and die for the sins of the world first because He desires all men to be saved.

If we could step out of our earthly lives, busy or not, just even for a short time, we might see how incredible is the honor of being called to glorify this God Man in our lives now.
