Application of wisdom towards life and towards God. Eph 1:8; Jam 3:13
length: 62:50 - taught on Apr, 3 2011
Class Outline:
/EPH 1:8a: From which grace he [God the Father] has caused to superabound toward us [super-grace believers]\
EPH 1:8 which He lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight
EPH 1:9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
/“in all wisdom” - the preposition e)n[en] plus the instrumental of two words, paj, [pas] and sofia[sophia] which means spiritual insight into things through knowledge of doctrine. “by means of all doctrine”\
/ Sophia is the technical word for Bible doctrine in the right lobe or the heart of the believer that is understood in relation other metabolized doctrines as well as the overall plan of God.\
Sophia can only be accomplished through the function of grace apparatus for perception (GAP).
There is a certain divine progression from knowledge (perception) to metabolized knowledge (metabolization) and wisdom (metabolized knowledge that is readily applied).
God the Holy Spirit is the agent of this progression. If you are not filled with the Spirit then there is no progress towards wisdom.
Quick summary of GAP; gnosis to wisdom.
Knowledge is your decision to take in doctrine today. You don’t know what you are going to hear, but you know that you need to hear the word of God on a daily basis.
2 Peter 1:5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence (virtue), and in your moral excellence (virture), knowledge (gnosis);
2 Peter 1:6 and in your knowledge (gnosis), self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness (this word is close to wisdom and insight combined);
2 Peter 1:7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness (virtue love), and in your brotherly kindness, love.
2 Peter 1:8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [fruit from epignosis is wisdom]
2 Peter 1:9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent [doctrine daily] to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;
2 Peter 1:11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
2 Peter 3:17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard [from false doctrines] lest, being carried away by the error of unprincipled men, you fall from your own steadfastness,
2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge [gnosis] of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
/Knowledge, or perception of doctrine, must be continually added to the mind to keep the process circulating. \
If you live by a lake that is fed by a mountain lake and that mountain lake dries up, your own lake won’t dry up right away, but eventually it will.
If you stop your daily intake of BD you will not feel the consequences immediately, but soon enough your wisdom will dry up.
/Metabolized doctrine is the next step towards wisdom in which the believer mixes faith with truth under the filling of the HS.\
While knowledge is true information concerning the plan of God it alone cannot change a person’s perception and understanding of the plan of God, therefore it does not transform the believer’s image of himself, his life, or Christ.
However, metabolized doctrine does alter our perception and therefore transforms our thinking, which will transform our personality, our lifestyle, and our personal sense of destiny.
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [personal revelation] in the knowledge [epignosis] of Him.\
ROM 10:2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge [epignosis - therefore their thinking was not changed].
ROM 10:3 For not knowing about God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
Phil 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge [epignosis] and all discernment,
No one is born into this world with love or discernment, in fact it’s the opposite. Even at salvation we are regenerated but we do not possess love or discernment, but epignosis doctrine will change that.
Phil 1:10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;
Phil 1:11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
COL 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge [epignosis] of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
COL 1:10so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge [epignosis] of God;
COL 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously
COL 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
COL 3:5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry [higher priority than God].
Col3:6 For it is on account of these things that the wrath of God will come [divine discipline],
Col3:7 and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.
COL 3:8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.
COL 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
COL 3:10 and have put on the new self [rebound] who is being renewed to a true knowledge [epignosis] according to the image of the One who created him.
/Knowledge alone does not renew the thinking of a believer, but metabolized knowledge does accomplish this.\
Once enough of this “full knowledge” is accumulated the believer begins to see how all doctrines interconnect into one seamless whole, which is termed the PPOG.
/It is then, after many metabolized doctrines are linked together that wisdom, which is the interconnected, interwoven, and multifaceted understanding of God’s program for the believer, can begin to flow and circulate in the heart. \
EPH 3:8 To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ,
EPH 3:9 and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things;
EPH 3:10 in order that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.
/ “manifold” - polupoikilos[polupoikilos] = much-variegated; marked with a great variety of colors: of cloth or a painting; much varied, manifold: manifesting itself in a great variety of forms.\
Gaining wisdom is like learning how to paint. God gives you a canvas, a palette, colors, brushes. You learn about them individually, but that doesn’t make you a painter.
EPH 3:11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord [His children learning His multi-colored wisdom],
EPH 3:12 in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him.
EPH 3:13 Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory.
The wisdom of the PPOG is a wisdom of many doctrines and how they are connected and related and effected by one another.
This is why a new believer can apply the FRD, but has an impossible time applying more advanced doctrines that are needed to function in virtue love. Therefore, the new believer should not serve any function in the church other than to perceive and metabolize under the filling of the HS.
Wisdom must also be applied towards your relationship with God.
James 3:13 Who among you is wise and understanding [skilled knowledge] ? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
/ “gentleness of wisdom” - prauteti sofias[prauteti sophias]. Prauteti - the temper of spirit in which we accept God’s dealings with us as good and therefore without disputing or resisting. \
From Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words:
/ [Prauteti] is an inwrought grace of the soul; and the exercises of it are first and chiefly towards God. It is that temper of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting; it is closely linked with the word humility, and follows directly upon it. (Vine’s Expository Dictionary) \
/Gentleness of wisdom refers to application of doctrine towards God. It is humility before God rather than striving with God.\
/Gentleness of wisdom is an application of doctrine to the timing of God and the decrees of God, not desiring anything else besides what God desires for you. \
Example: Paul’s trip to Jerusalem: lack of wisdom.
