Christ’s seamless undergarment has been given to mankind so that his nakedness might be clothed. John 14:19; 19:23-24.
length: 1:34:29 - taught on Nov, 6 2011
Class Outline:
John 14:19"After a little while the world will behold Me no more; but you will behold Me; because I live, you shall live also.
/ “behold” - present active indicative of qeorew[theoreo] which means to perceive with the mind. You are going to observe me in your soul\
What has begun in the upper-room at our Lord’s Passover was an introduction to the mystery doctrine. To follow is the complete revelation of the mystery and the canon of scripture will be complete. Therefore, seeing Him with our eyes is not necessary.
/John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. \
/1 Cor 2:16
For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. \
/Through the full realm of mystery doctrine that unlocks any remaining mysteries of all doctrines, the disciples will behold Christ far more than they did during the first advent. \
Knowing His mind brings capacity to love Him.
I could see you for an hour every day for your whole life and not know a thing about you unless you speak and reveal your mind. Christ could not fully reveal His mind until the session when the Spirit and the entire mystery doctrine would be released.
/ “because I live, you shall live also,” refers to the resurrection body that every believer will receive. But in Christ’s absence there is an abundant life available on earth - resurrection life.\
“Because I have life you will have life also, and you do not have to wait for eternity to be clothed with this life.”
The fact that the life begins at salvation for the positive believer and that he does not have to wait for eternity is all throughout the scripture.
/Matt 7:14
"For the gate is small, and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it. \
/Matt 10:39
"He who has found his life [soul] shall lose it, and he who has lost his life [soul] for My sake shall find it. \
Losing your soul means losing the priorities of your soul for His sake. We all enter the plan of God with self as top priority and this must change to occupation with Christ if we are to find this life.
Just because you are alive does not mean that you know how to live.
/John 5:21
"For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. \
/John 6:35
I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. \
/John 6:63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. \
/John 8:12
"I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life." \
/John 10:10
"The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly. \
/John 14:6
I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me. \
/John 17:3
And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. \
This refers to the function of eternal life in the believer. All believers possess eternal life, but only the positive believer lives that life in time.
In the apostle Peter’s Pentecost message he quoted:
/Acts 2:28
Thou hast made known to me [JC] the ways of life; [quote of Psa 16]\
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.\
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might [volition] walk in newness of life.\
For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. \
I could give you about 30 more just like them, but I stopped since I figured that I made my point. Old and New testaments speak of the fact that God has an abundant life for His people.
/In the Church age this life is distinctly the life of Christ that His humanity possessed during the first advent. \
The question is:
/What did Christ have that gave Him such an abundant life? The answer is that His soul was clothed with the truth. \
In fact, so much so was His soul clothed with the truth that one cannot separate Him from the truth. They have become for all time and eternity, one and the same. He chose this.
I in no way sought out this doctrine because I was reading a book. I am reading this book for pleasure and did not pick it up for doctrinal study. “Because I live you will live also,” points directly to covering the soul in resurrection, which resurrection can be experienced in time. It is the life of Christ. It is a matter of divine providence that this book came into my hands.
Without a resurrection body our souls would be unclothed forever. Since Christ, through justification, has earned for each one of us a resurrection body we have faith in full assurance that we will be clothed for all eternity and we long for that day.
However, in this mortal body there is a sense of nakedness when we are controlled by the OSN and swallowed up by the world system. Christ has provided a covering for our mortal bodies, but it cannot be seen with the physical eye.
/The soul of TLJC was clothed with the truth. It was a uniform of honor. This seamless garment of virtue has been passed on to His bride so that we may be clothed with His truth, love, virtue and honor.\
This covering is a seamless garment composed of the virtues of spiritual maturity. It is a uniform of honor that clothes the soul with the love for Christ and therefore love for one another and it makes our whole body feel clothed.
/Christ possessed a very expensive and desirable seamless undergarment.\
John 19:23 The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece.
There are four soldiers and one officer at the cross. The four parts come from His outer garments [tunic, belt, pockets, head scarf are possible]. The fifth item is the seamless undergarment. Five is the number of grace.
/The Lord’s undergarment of one piece represents the unity of the truth. All doctrines weave together to comprise the mind of Christ.\
The garment was weaved from the neck downward. It took considerable skill and time to weave it all together. This is a picture of the revelation of God to man.
/Truth has been revealed gradually throughout human history, ever increasing in revelation until its close in 96 AD. This is pictured by the Lord’s one piece weaved garment. One piece - one mind. \
/The garment is also a picture of the formation of the body of Christ. Christ is the head and the one piece garment is woven from the neck downward to form the body, EPH 4:4.\
Hold your place in John 19:
EPH 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
EPH 4:5one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
EPH 4:6one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
/The body is held together by the word of truth, EPH 4:16.\
EPH 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
EPH 4:15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ,
EPH 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies [PT provides consistent doctrine], according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
Man’s so called truth is comprised of different parts from which he attempts to stitch together one truth, but in doing so there will always be seams and hence division. He will be tossed here and there by waves. As we have seen he cannot do it since the finite divided mind can in no way discover the infinite seamless truth.
The fact that this is an undergarment signifies that Christ’s doctrines are in His soul. He revealed His soul to the world and some accepted it while most rejected it.
However, this did not prevent Him from giving His mind to the world as is beautifully depicted here and right in line with prophecy.
Go back to:
John 19:24 They said therefore to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "They divided My outer garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."
The four outer garments were taken by the soldiers as they willed, but the seamless inner garment was given by lot. By putting the seamless garment to chance the soldier who received it did not himself take it.
/Election and the full realm of doctrinal truth are gifts from God. No man searches for God and finds Him. God calls man and God gives the truth.\
Anyone who sets out to search for God always falls into confusion. He looks, as he thinks is wise, at all religions and all science and all knowledge and he can in no way put it all together.
God calls and man may answer that call with positive volition.
/2 Thess 2:14
And it was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. \
/Matt 22:14
"For many are called, but few are chosen." \
The soldier who won the garment may have considered himself lucky, but I’m fairly sure that God was in controlling the outcome of that game.
Again, the truth must be given to man, which can only come through faith in Christ, i.e. answering the call.
/The analogy of the seamless truth being the inner garment of Christ given to man tells us that God demands for us to put it on and clothe ourselves with it.\
Our covering is the flesh and it is riddled with the OSN, making us fearful, unconfident, ashamed, etc. feeling naked, but there is something more powerful than all that - the word of God. Represented here by the seamless garment, Christ has given it to us so that we may put it on and it will itself cover or clothe the nakedness of our flesh.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.\
Christ’s physical body was transformed into a resurrection body and so will your contaminated body, but minus the contamination. But Christ did not wait until He received a resurrection body to live the life. He wore a garment of doctrine which is so powerful that it will also cover our contamination in time that we may live the life, but without perfection.
/Man’s garment was torn at the fall. He separated himself from God choosing independence from God and so he was torn. Since then many have tried to repair those tares themselves and whatever they come up with must always have seams. \
/Luke 5:36
And He was also telling them a parable: "No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. \
As He tells this I’m sure He is feeling that inner garment against His skin, knowing the prophecy of Psalm 22, that it will be given to mankind.
/When God gave man His perfect Law it only revealed man’s torn condition, ROM 7:15\
For that which I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. \
No one could keep the Law entirely because no one possessed perfect righteousness.
For all of us have become like one who is unclean,
And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment;\
If the seamless garment is torn it can not be put right again. After all that Christ went through that horrible night leading up to the cross that garment was not torn on millimeter.
If He was not stripped naked at the cross the Roman spear would have torn it.
/Man cannot tare the word of God. Man cannot take away from it or add to it.\
When man attempts to remove parts of the word he tares it. When he attempts to add to the word he adds a cloth of a different type and it will not match. In both cases the removing or the adding requires stitching and therefore making a visible seam.
The members of the body do not conspire or confer to tell the head what to do; to arrange the plans and programs for the head. Neither does the head ask the members to make the plans. The members are but informed of what the plans already are, or of what the next step is, and their responsibility begins and ends with obedience.
COL 2:18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
COL 2:19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.
/Phil 2:16
holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may have cause to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.\
Which kind of order or unity that we will obtain depends on how far the truth of holding fast the Head is being expressed. The oneness of Christ in His thought, His purpose, His way, His means, His time, His everything, expressed in the saints, is what is in view when we are given this seamless robe to wear.
Blood on the robe: Communion.
Covered with my OSN I just want to hide my nakedness. That nakedness comes in the form of guilt, shame, self-pity, a lack of confidence, fear, doubt, and all manners of weakness.
Adam and the woman clothed their nakedness with fig leaves. God clothed them with animal skins as a shadow type of what was to come and now we clothe ourselves with Christ.
There is yet another characteristic of this seamless inner garment that I did not mention.
When Christ was scourged He was stripped naked. The Romans did this to embarrass the criminal. After the scourging His garments were put back on Him, along with a crown of thorns, before He was presented to Pilate again.
His seamless inner garment would have been thoroughly stained with His blood. This was not only true then, but it will be true in eternity.
REV 19:13 And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God.
Notice how the name is associated with the robe dipped in blood. This is not told to us so that we will be sad for all eternity, but to always remember why we have what we have and are what we are.
The blood of Christ was the price that was paid for our salvation. Like the robe it is representative. It represents His work on the cross in dying a spiritual death as a substitute for us.
EPH 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,
He will also have His 5 scars forever in heaven. These are not sad things, but remembrances. For the same reason we are given this one ritual to bring Him into remembrance.
His sacrifice and its remembrance gives joy to the God head. We will not see it their way until we grow up spiritually.
HEB 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
But the Lord was pleased
To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
He will see His offspring,
He will prolong His days,
And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.
We should rejoice as well. The Lord said to His disciples that He longed to celebrate the last Passover with them. And then He said that He would not do so again until we meet Him again and we all lift that fourth Passover cup at our wedding feast.
Our resurrection bodies will not have scars, nor will our garments for all eternity be stained with blood.
REV 19:14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.
REV 19:15And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may smite the nations; and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.
REV 19:16And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."
1 Cor 11:23-26
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25 In the same way He took the cup also, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
