Confidence to enter the Holy of Holies; John 15:16.Title: Confidence to enter the Holy of Holies; John 15:16.
A continued diet of Bible doctrine continues to cleanse the conscience from OSN and cosmic influence, Heb 10:22.
Heb 10:19 Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
The Holy of Holies was forbidden to all in the OT save for the high priest and he was only allowed in once a year.
Therefore, the confidence spoken of here is greater than any confidence anyone could have in the age of Israel.
The Church-age believer, through BD, has far greater confidence to enter into a deep relationship with God than anyone in the OT.
1 Cor 2:9 "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him."
1 Cor 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.
Believers in the body of Christ have confidence to enter places that no one in the past ever dreamed of.
"holy place" = the Holy of Holies to the Church that refers to the third heaven of which every believer is a citizen. It is the believer's true home forever.
Phil 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us.
Phil 3:18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ [dead works instead of grace],
Phil 3:19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.
Phil 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
Phil 3:21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.
When you die or the Rapture happens then that's where you're going forever. Before that time you have access to the beauties, virtues, and blessings of heaven through the word of God under the FHS.
Col 3:1 If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
Col 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
Heb 10:19 Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
The reason we have confidence to access the true Holy of Holies is revealed in the next phrase "by the blood of Jesus."
The high priest could only enter the H of H on the Day of Atonement with animal blood. This was a picture of Christ entering heaven after His substitutionary spiritual death (blood of Christ).
And while some of the priests and Pharisees were on Cavalry mocking Christ others were in the temple and in the holy place and in the great humor of God as well as the great typology of God a veil that took 300 priests to carry was torn from top to bottom.
The Talmud describes the veil of that time. It was 60 feet high, 30 feet wide, and approximately a foot thick. When it was constructed it was divided up into 72 squares and a different person made each one of the squares. It took 300 priests to lift the veil (only a priest could touch the veil). The Talmud describes the veil which covered the holy of holies. It was too tough and too thick to be split by an earthquake. There was just one way it could be ripped from top to bottom. Our Lord did it Himself.
Heb 10:20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,
The translators have rearranged the word order here.
“which access He dedicated to us a way newly slain yet living, through the veil, that is, His flesh.” (correct word order)
“new” – pro,sfatoj[prosphatos] = properly it means: recently slaughtered, freshly killed. Universally it means: recently or new.
The context here obviously points to the proper use.
The high priest could only enter the H of H past the veil with sacrificial blood. The flesh of Christ, He being the once and for all true sacrifice for sin grants open access to the third heaven for all who have believed.
Approaching God in the OT was imperfect and difficult.
The flesh would not refer to the literal flesh of Christ. Some argue that the tearing of the veil at the conclusion of the cross was representative of the tearing of Christ’s flesh on the cross, but it isn’t any tearing of the physical flesh of Christ that opens the heavens to the believer.
The veil was a barrier between mankind and the Holy of Holies and Christ in His humanity tore down that barrier through His spiritual death. Doctrine of reconciliation.
“His flesh” refers to His humanity that would become the slain, Pascal lamb who would take away the sins of the whole world.
John 6:51 "I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread also which I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh."
Eph 2:15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
1 John was written to refute Gnosticism. Gnosticism originated from an attempt to unite Greek, Persian, and eastern philosophies with Judaism and eventually Christianity. Quickly stated Gnostics believed that all matter was evil and so God did not create the universe and that the person of Christ was not true humanity. One sect believed that Christ entered the body of Jesus at His baptism and left Him at the crucifixion. Another sect believed that Christ was in a phantom body, which was not consisted of real matter.
This is what occurs when some idiot attempts to unite all religions or another idiot claims that all religions are the same.
1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;
2 John 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.
Go back to: Heb 10:20 “which access He dedicated to us a way newly slain yet living, through the veil, that is, His flesh.” (corrected translation)
Heb 10:21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
Christ possesses a new priesthood that is unprecedented. He is the eternal, royal, high priest of the Church and the members of the Church comprise His royal priests.
There are three legitimate priesthoods: 1) In the age of the Gentiles it was the head of the family. 2) In the age of Israel it was the Levitical priesthood. 3) In the Church-age there is the priesthood of Christ.
Christ is from the tribe of Judah from which the royal line was prophesized, Gen 49:10. Combined with His promotion to high priest by the Father, Heb 5:10, makes Him an unprecedented royal high priest.
Gen 49:10 "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
Heb 5:5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "Thou art My Son, Today I have begotten Thee";
God is the only one who truly promotes a believer, even the humanity of Christ. If God doesn’t promote you, you are not promoted.
Heb 5:6 just as He says also in another passage, "Thou art a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek."
Heb 5:7 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.
Heb 5:8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.
Heb 5:9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,
Heb 5:10 being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
Since He is the high priest and the believer is a royal priest we should draw near to the Holy of Holies with confidence to accumulate divine viewpoint.
Heb 10:22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
“let us draw near” = let us approach. It is God’s purpose for the believer to use his free will to approach Him.
Depending upon your status as a priest, the high priest, or not a priest your approach to the Holy of Holies was interrupted.
illustration: H of H.
The verb is a tandential present, which means the writer is asking the reader to make a habit or an exercise out of drawing near to the Holy of Holies.
And so, the believer through his relationship with Christ and his relationship with Christ’s doctrines, remaining in fellowship through rebound, and walking in the light through applied wisdom and producing divine good feeds the self-consciousness with a good report, making crutches unnecessary and SSS a reality. |
