God Provides Everything for You to Fulfill His Word.

Sunday September 14th 2025

Main idea: God will provide everything that we need to fulfill His will as stated in His Word.

Intro: We’ve come a long way from the first time the city was stirred up by news of the birth of the king of the Jews in Mat 2:1-3. As then, also in Mat 21 - Jerusalem is very worried.

Into that climate Jesus would fearlessly, openly reveal Himself as Messiah. And to our surprise, He won’t say it Himself. He will do and say things that make it unmistakable, and this opening ride will be the first.

Mat 21:1-11

#1: Jesus follows the Word of God no matter what.

Everything from this point has to be public. We saw this when He healed the blind men and did not tell them to be quiet about it. Mat 8:4; Mat 9:30; Mat 12:16; Mat 17:9; Mar 1:44; Mar 3:12; Mar 5:43; Mar 7:36; Mar 8:30; Mar 9:9; Luk 4:41; Luk 8:56; Luk 9:21.

His warning to others to tell no one was also a fulfillment of prophecy: Isa 42:2.

But now is the time. His hour has come.

Jesus is concerned about the will of His Father and unconcerned with what it looks like to the world.

Larger text: Jesus knows the Word and trusts it as He trusts the Father. He knows the donkeys will be there, and also, that in all that He must do, which is incredible, the Father will supply everything He needs, while He trusts, goes, says, and does.

Jesus would fearlessly, openly reveal Himself as Messiah. [Mat 21:7, He immediately gets the colt and sits on it and enters]

1Pe 4:12-13

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.

He begins this greatest of days in the history of mankind with a revelation of His faith in the Father to fulfill His word. There will be donkeys in the city.

He is humble and still Lord - He commands His disciples to go and get them and bring them to Him. He doesn’t explain.

They will not understand any of this until after His resurrection.

Joh 12:16

These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him.

The entire week is particularly crafted by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (and Matthew’s writing so we can see it):

Mat 23:39

"For I say to you, from now on you shall not see Me until you say, ' Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'"

#2. He is not what anyone expects and He shuns any temptation to conform to their worldview.

When we fear what’s coming we are more tempted to conform to what we think might overcome according to our life experience, or the culture’s idea.

Why is it planned this way? Humanity submits to the Father, relies on the Father, does not fear mankind nor their threats nor any loss of earthly needs. Humanity walks with the Father in love and fellowship. Humanity does the will of the Father, which never needs a show, always stands up to bullies, does not fear anything but the Lord Himself.

Your life can be crafted by the Lord’s hand - the image of the potter and clay.

2Ti 2:21

Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work

Isa 64:8

But now, O Lord, You are our Father,

We are the clay, and You our potter;

And all of us are the work of Your hand.

Isa 45:9-10

"Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker —

An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth!

Will the clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?'

Or the thing you are making say, 'He has no hands'?

10 "Woe to him who says to a father, 'What are you begetting?'

Or to a woman, 'To what are you giving birth?'"

Your life can be used by God in an amazing, impactful way, or it can blend in with the rest of those who only trust in themselves or what culture tells them.

This week, Passion Week, is the most important week in the history of the world. How you respond to it could make you one of the most important people in the history of the world. Which life you live depends upon your trust in God’s commandments and promises.

Application: Giving with trust in the Lord’s promise.

The important theme is complete trust in God’s Word when we face approaching trial, difficulty, persecution, opposition to the truth, whether real or imagined. Pressure makes us more vulnerable to the temptations of preparing in worldly ways.

2Co 9:8-9

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; 9 as it is written,

"He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor,

His righteousness abides forever."

Elijah and the widow: 1Ki 17:8-16.

There are 7,487 promises in the Word of God. There are several that directly apply to every situation we face in life, every area of life, everything!

#3. The crowd praises Him without knowing His character nor the Father’s plans for Him.

The prophecy not only says what He will do, but reveals His character.

“Humble” praus: not being overly impressed by a sense of one’s self-importance, gentle, humble, considerate, meek.

Mat 5:5

"Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Mat 11:29

"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.”

We not only do what God commands, and trust the promises, but we put on a heart that matches the characteristics of virtue which God asks.

#3. How do we gain the desire for God’s will?

You must be born again.

You must learn of Christ and the Father through His Word.

You must ask (“What do you want Me to do for you?”) and be honest.

You must be disciplined (passively) so that you will learn discipline actively (Heb 12).

You must learn some more.

You must ask again.

You must believe the promises of the future (Beatitudes).
