The abode of God built in your soul; the edification complex of the soul; John 14:21-23Title: The abode of God built in your soul; the edification complex of the soul; John 14:21-23
John 14:22Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, "Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us, and not to the world?"[this is correctly translated]
John 14:23Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him [repeating verse 21], and We will come to him [face to face with him], and make Our abode with him.
The second part, “we will come to him, and make Our abode with him,” is added as the next step that should occur in every CA believer after the indwelling of the Son, Father, and Spirit at salvation.
First we must note that Christ doesn’t answer the question – “What has happened?” because they have witnessed what has happened.
He presented Himself to Israel as her King on the back of the colt of a donkey and they shouted Hosanna, save us now, but not from our sins. Save us from the Romans. They saw Him weep at that and they were not tears of joy. They saw Him wither the fig tree. They saw Him throw the money changers out of the temple. They heard his parables about the vineyard that would be taken. They heard Him announce that the temple would be destroyed. He said to all of them point blank, two days prior to this, that He would be crucified at the Passover.
Yet they don’t want to believe it. Their eyes are on themselves and not the plan of God.
So the answer to Thaddeus’ question was already given. What has happened? Israel has rejected her King.
John 12:36 These things Jesus spoke, and He departed and hid Himself from them.
John 12:37But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him;
John 12:38that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
John 12:39For this cause they could not believe, for Isaiah said again,
John 12:40"He has blinded their eyes, and He hardened their heart; lest they see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and be converted, and I heal them."
John 12:41These things Isaiah said, because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him.
We have already noted that God the Son and God the Father indwell the body of every believer, but that is only partially in view here. The key to this verse is “make Our abode with him.”
Go back to: John 14:23Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him [repeating verse 21], and We will come to him [face to face with him], and make Our abode with him.
/ “abode” = a dwelling place that is made by the Son and Father. The body is already made. “Make” is future speaking of the construction of the edification complex of the soul.\
The same word is used of the “abode” that the Lord promised that He would make for us in heaven. KJV calls it a mansion, but that is not a legitimate translation. It is a home. A place of comfort.
/John 14:2 In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. \
However, in verse 23 the abode is with us and not located in heaven.
“We will come face to face with Him,” refers to the glory of God in doctrine coming face to face with your PVTD so that, just as looking in the mirror of the word of God, His glory is being transferred into us.
/2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. \
/ abode “with him” = dative of par autw[par auto] – in the immediate vicinity of him, near by him, beside him, in the presence of him, or with him.\
Metaphorically it can mean within the mind or the heart, but God purposely does not say that the abode is within us but right beside us to indicate that it is an addition to the soul.
When Christ describes the indwelling of the Spirit and Himself within the believer He uses the preposition “en,” but here we have “par,” which means to be beside. This is the edification complex, constructed of doctrine that is built in addition to the soul.
We can picture the edification complex built in the human spirit, which was imputed to you as a gift at salvation and is attached to the soul or alongside the soul. We could consider the edification complex as the west wing [began in 1901 under Teddy Roosevelt with decades of renovations – oval office], an addition to our souls where the Father and the Son are at home, relaxed, and comfortable.
/The edification complex of the soul is the oval office of the Trinity.\
Therefore the abode is the building in your soul that is constructed of Bible doctrine.
/2 Cor 10:8 For even if I should boast somewhat further about our authority [Paul was given authority to teach the mystery doctrine to the Gentile world – the PT now has this authority to teach], which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I shall not be put to shame,\
It’s all about the word. It’s all about the method and not the pastor’s type of voice, dress, teaching style, charisma, or personality.
Some believers choose pastors based on those traits and not the content of doctrine. These believers will never build an edification complex in their souls until they change their thinking and under enforced humility become teachable.
/2 Cor 13:10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent, in order that when present I may not use severity, in accordance with the authority which the Lord gave me, for building up and not for tearing down. \
/Eph 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; \
/Eph 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. \
John 14:23Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with him.
/Personal love for God is a major step in God completing this structure in your soul.\
/1 Cor 8:1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.\
/Doctrine built up in the soul becomes a reality in the form of a relaxed mental attitude, a lack of MASs, humility, teachability, and occupation with Christ = agape love.\
That is agape love and it is a major part of the soul structure for the positive believer. It is not an emotion of love but a relaxed mental attitude based on the reality of your eternal relationship with God.
/Gal 4:19 My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you \
/Rom 14:19 So then let us pursue [run, not walk = PV] the things which make for peace [reconciliation and prosperity] and the building up [edification] of one another. \
Build an edification structure.
/Foundation: Jesus Christ. It is eternal salvation, 40 things received at salvation. \
/[slide: edification complex]\
The foundation is constructed on the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross, i.e., redemption, propitiation, reconciliation, imputation, and justification.
/2 Tim 2:19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of the Lord abstain from wickedness."\
1 Cor 3:11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Cor 3:12Now if any man builds upon the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
1 Cor 3:13each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire; and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.
Luke 6:47 "Everyone who comes to Me, and hears My words, and acts upon them, I will show you whom he is like:
Luke 6:48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood rose, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

/[slide: edification complex]\
Every day you humble yourself under the teaching of the word of God and you concentrate under the filling of the HS. In so doing you continue to convert gnosis doctrine into epignosis doctrine in the heart, which is ready for application.

The whole complex is built of doctrine in the right lobe of the soul, i.e. the heart. The bigger this complex is, the more doctrine is metabolized and applied, the bigger the west wing is and the command center of the Trinity within you.
The White House was completed in 1800. It was burned in 1814 by the British during the war of 1812.
After the War of Independence the British contented American sovereignty by attempting to restrict her trade with France, with whom Brittan was at war, and attacking her merchant ships and enslaving British deserter sailors that claimed American citizenship. Brittan saw the new client nation as a threat to its navy. The British supported Indian raids on the northwest territory of Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana which by the Treaty of Paris, 1783, belonged to the United States. Invasions on Chesapeake Bay resulted in an invasion of Washington DC and the White House was burned in 1814. The war ended that year and reconstruction of the White House was begun immediately.
Why do I tell you this? America was brand new. She had 12,000 active troops in all and not many skilled military commanders. The believer begins much like America, not in war, but in independence from the rule of death and into the freedom of eternal life in Christ Jesus. This salvation is the foundation of the edification complex.
But often, in spiritual infancy as well as at any stage of spiritual growth, the enemy that we have gained independence from attacks again, hoping to regain it’s sovereignty over you. And we will lose some battles and we may have whatever we have accumulated of the edification complex burned down and badly. We can lose what we have built and gained, but that foundation is always there. We can never, ever lose our foundation which is all that God has imputed to us who are in union eternally with Christ and possess eternal life. America recovered from the burning of Washington and rebuilt what was destroyed. If we recover from our large defeats and our reversionisms by rebounding and making doctrine #1 priority again we can rebuild what we have lost, just like the Americans did.
Throughout our history we have continued to add to the White House, not just in structure, but in technology and security. As we accumulate doctrine over the years through the principle of inculcation we do the same with our edification complex and our west wing becomes the command center for the function of the Trinity.
By the way, on the night of the burning of Washington a tremendous storm swept in and sent one or more tornados that added to the damage, but the torrential rains of the storm put out the fires. Divine providence? |
