Names of God; part 17. The compound names of YHVH …Title: Names of God; part 17. The compound names of YHVH … "I am _______."
Compound names of YHVH. “I keep on being that which I keep on being.” The compound provides the “that” of which He always was, is, and will be.
The names are attributes of God that we are to put our faith in. When necessary, we are to immediately say, "Yavah will …" and fill in the blank in your mind. The uneducated believer only has the blank and will nothing to enter confidently, not knowing the attributes of God in which to anchor his faith, he fears. The believer is to be able to recall the attributes of God in an instant, when the moment arises and especially when the trial is at its most intense point. He must fill in the blank, "Yavah will ______," even though sight may clearly suggest that Yavah wont. Such trials make us strive with God, diligently seek Him, and thirst for Him.
2Co 5:1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2Co 5:2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven;
2Co 5:3 inasmuch as we, having put it on, shall not be found naked.
2Co 5:4 For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed, but to be clothed, in order that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
We are "burdened" with temptation from within and without, sickness, trials, suffering in tribulation. God has prepared us for this purpose.
2Co 5:5 Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.
[go back to] 2Co 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves;
2Co 4:8 we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing;
2Co 4:9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
2Co 4:10 always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus [His finished work], that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.
Why doesn't God make it so that Christians only experience prosperity in body, materialism, wealth, relationships, children, etc? Would we cling to Him more if He was a sort of sugar Daddy to us? As I contemplated this question yet again, I realized that in suffering, trial, tribulation, pressure that although we may disagree with His timing and His method, inevitably we are driven to Him alone in the midst of these things. He is the only source of deliverance, while we may be easily fooled into thinking that prosperity has come from our own skill, from others, or simply by chance. In suffering, there is no relief but Him.
2Co 5:6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord —
2Co 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight —
2Co 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
2Co 5:9 Therefore also we have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Our ambition is not to make the life of toil and burden as comfortable for ourselves as possible, but to be pleasing to Him.
Rom 8:8 those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
Col 1:10 so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Col 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously
Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Gen 22:12 And he said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."
Gen 22:13 Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.
Gen 22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the Lord it will be provided."
Sure enough, on that mountain, about 1900 years from then, God would provide everything by the blood of Christ.
YHVH yireh (He has, is, and will always provide). On this very hill God would provide is only begotten Son as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
Exo 15:22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.
"When the supply fails, our faith is gone." [Luther]
Exo 15:23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah [bitter].
Exo 15:24 So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"
Exo 15:25 Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them.
Exo 15:26 And He said, "If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer."
YHVH roph’ekha (who keeps healing you) or YHVH your physician. Rapha = physician, but added is the suffix kah – the singular “you” or “your”. I was, am, and always will be your personal Physician.
The name reveals that God is the Great Physician who is yours personally and individually. |
