ROM 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin [sin nature] entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned — 

 

ROM 5:13 for until the Law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed [ellogao = charged to their account] when there is no law.

 

ROM 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses [still under the penalty of Adam's sin], even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

 

ROM 5:15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

 

ROM 5:16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification.

 

ROM 5:17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

 

ROM 5:18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.

 

Justification is a legal standing before God as fully acquitted. However, alone this may not change the character of a person, but justification with spiritual life changes position and character.

 

All believers would have their character changed if it was justification alone that does it. The work of Christ resulted in a gift of the life that is Christ given to all believers. That life is described as justified, meaning it is a holy life, a blameless life, a life that is in full agreement with the righteousness of God.

 

Scriptures pertaining to the justified life gifted by Christ:

 

COL 3:4

Christ, who is our life

 

It demands dedication. Apathy will not live in it.

 

Php 2:16

holding fast [hold forth - to hold one's mind towards] the word of life

 

It is a profitable life when there's devotion to it:

 

1TI 4:8

godliness [well devotedness] is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

 

The life gives and operates the spiritual gift:

 

2TI 1:1

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus

 

It includes everyday affairs but it is heavenly:

 

2TI 2:4

No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier

 

Since all bels have it, all should be granted honor:

 

1PE 3:7

grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life

 

At the time, women did not enjoy a good status in society as compared to men. So then, no believer, no matter how lowly society may look at him, should be treated dishonorably.

 

1JO 3:14

We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.

 

1JO 3:16

We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

 

Everything for it is supplied by God. It requires a deep understanding of God's word.

 

2PE 1:3

His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

 

The source of it is Christ in heaven, so then all believers will live it in heaven, but they don't have to wait until then.

 

REV 21:6

"It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.

 

REV 22:1-2

And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. And on either side of the river was the tree of life

 

REV 22:17

And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.

 

ROM 5:18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.

 

Our oneness with Adam explains the universality of sin and its fatal hold on all humanity. Our oneness with Christ is the basis for the triumphant life that is expounded upon in the rest of the book of Romans.

 

Failure to live victoriously in Christ comes from failure to understand this passage, which is one of the most important in the Bible.

 

God never tells the believer that he can do as he pleases. God entreats us to walk in the manner that is worthy of who we are in Christ, justified, righteous, sanctified.

 

Far too many Christians know nothing or very little about this victory in Christ and due to that very few Christians live a life of victory. They are those who search the dumpster for food while they have millions sitting in the bank.

 

There never has to be a question again as to whether the manner of my life is good and acceptable. I have been given the life that is Christ which is justified.

 

ROM 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present [same verb as used in ROM 6:13] your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

 

ROM 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove [infinitive of dokimazo] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

 

ROM 12:2 "Do not be conformed" = Stop masquerading in the outward coverings of this world, its mannerisms, speech expressions, styles, habits.

 

The word world is not cosmos but aion, meaning the age. Trench defines as follows "All that floating mass of thoughts, opinions, maxims, speculations, hopes, impulses, aims, aspirations, at any time current in the world, which it may be impossible to seize and accurately define, but which constitute a most real and effective power, being the moral, or immoral atmosphere which at every, moment of our lives we inhale, again inevitably to exhale, — all this is included in the aion (age), which is, as Bengel has expressed it, the subtle informing spirit of the kosmos or world of men who are living alienated and apart from God."

 

"world" - aion = floating mass of thoughts, opinions, maxims, speculations, hopes, impulses, aims, aspirations of the current spirit of the world of men who are living alienated from God.
