Angelic Conflict part 146: Human history (Sabbath) – Heb 4; Joh 16:33; Luk 12; Jer 17:5-8; 2Ti 2:11-13; Act 2:4; 3:17-19.

Title: Angelic Conflict part 146: Human history (Sabbath) – Heb 4; Joh 16:33; Luk 12; Jer 17:5-8; 2Ti 2:11-13; Act 2:4; 3:17-19.

Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains [left behind] of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.

Heb 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached [heard] to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.

Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

"As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest,"

although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Heb 4:4 For He has thus said somewhere [sarcasm] concerning the seventh day, "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works" [Gen 2:2];

Heb 4:5 and again in this passage, "They shall not enter My rest."

Heb 4:6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,

Heb 4:7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before,

"Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts."

The writer is indicating that David wrote Psa 95.

If “Today” meant today in David’s time (500 years later) then “Today” still applies today. There will always be God’s rest for every person who is alive in human history.

Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.

Joshua is mentioned because Moses did not bring them in. Joshua entered the land with them, crossing the Jordan into Jericho and it would take 6 years to defeat 6 nations and 31 kings.

Canaan, the Promised Land, wasn’t heaven. There were still tons of problems. If Israel had a final rest in the PL then David wouldn’t have written of it.

They simply transferred from the problems associated with wandering to the problems associated with conquering, and then to the problems associated with settling. We often fail to see that when one problem is finished that another one lurks behind it and we will never be free of them until heaven. Yet in such conflict His perfect peace has been left behind.

Joh 14:24

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Joh 16:33

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."

The Lord’s peace is not involved in attempting to make everybody get along. That’s not the peace of Christ, but the peace of the world.

Luke 12:49 "I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!

Luke 12:50 "But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

Luke12:51 "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division

Luke 12:52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.

Luke 12:53 "They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.

World peace – get all to agree on a future destiny of man on earth while eradicating the unbending and uncompromising “truth” from Christianity.

The concept always excludes the one true God as well as a heavenly destiny. It is a vehicle of satan designed to elevate the creature above the Creator.

The French Revolution instituted a governmental executor designed for the protection of the republic from external and internal attacks and quickly became a dictatorship in charge of military, judicial, and legislative efforts of the government. They presided over the Reign of Terror in which anywhere from 16,000 to 40,000 were executed by the guillotine.

We will show this Fatherland to the citizen ceaselessly, in his laws, in his games, in his home, in his loves, in his festivities. We will never leave him to himself alone. We will by this continual coercion awaken ardent love for the Fatherland. We will direct his inclination toward this single passion. It is in this way that the Frenchman will acquire a national physiognomy [countenance]; it is in this way that, by identifying him so to speak with the happiness in his country, we will bring about this vitally necessary transformation of the monarchical spirit into a republican spirit. [Committee for Public Safety – April 1793]

Interestingly the French word for ‘safety’ also means salvation. They killed tens of thousands who didn't agree with them and called themselves "safety" and said that they promoted liberty and freedom.

In their education program, older children were to be taught through manuals modeled on catechisms that loaded grammar with political content:

Question: What is Baptism?

Answer: It is the regeneration of the French begun on 14 July 1789 [storming of the Bastille], and soon supported by the entire French nation.

Question: What is Communion?

Answer: It is the association proposed to all peoples by the French Republic henceforth to form on earth only one family of brothers who no longer recognize or worship any idol or tyrant.

Question: What is Penitence?

Answer: Today it is the wandering existence of traitors to their Fatherland. It is the banishment of all those monsters who, unworthy to inhabit the land of Liberty and to share the benefits which their villainy has only delayed, will soon be driven out of every corner of the globe, and, having become an abomination to all life, will have no refuge except in the bowels of the earth which they have overly polluted with their crimes.

We can often lose sight of where we’ve been lately in the scripture and where we are going. In looking at the word peace as it was used by Christ during the incarnation I came across this teaching by Him which wonderfully summarizes where we have been in our study of trust, rest, and peace. I do not want to take any of this on too quickly. I found that as I exegeted this chapter that I was being referred back to many passages that we have noted as of late. So I'm going to let the Lord do the talking and walk us through this very important principle of rest and peace.

Luk 12:

Our Lord's disciples may not have realized it, but they were in great danger. For one thing, they were surrounded by immense crowds of people whose major concern was not to hear spiritual truth but to see Jesus do a miracle or meet some personal need. At the same time, the scribes and Pharisees were plotting against Jesus and trying to get Him out of the way. The snare of popularity and the fear of man has brought rum to more than one servant of God.

In Luke 12, Luke recorded five warnings from our Lord. Four of these warnings must be heeded by Gods people today if we are to be faithful disciples; and the fifth warning should be heeded by a lost world.

Luk 12:1 Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Luke 12:13Someone in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me."

Hypocrisy is a word that means play acting, or pretending to be something that you are not.

1Jo 1:6

If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

1Jo 1:8

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1Jo 1:10

If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

1Jo 2:4

The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

1Jo 2:9

The one who says he is in the light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.

1Ti 6:3-4

If anyone advocates a different doctrine, and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited [wrapped in smoke] and understands nothing;
