Title: Angelic Conflict part 170: Human history (soul and spirit) - HEB 4:12; 1CO 15:35-49; 6:12-20; 2CO 4:15-18; 5:1-10; ROM 8:1-25.

1CO 15:44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

"spiritual body" - sw/ma pneumatiko,j[soma pneumatikos] = a body suited for the things that originate with God, for God's character, and for heaven.\

This is why we long for the resurrection. Our new spirit is not suited for these bodies, but God has willed it so to reveal His righteousness and justice under such circumstances. However, the spiritual body is perfectly suited for it. Now the twelve cylinder high performance engine finds itself in the Ferrari body and driving has never been so much fun.

ROM 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

ROM 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

This is true for all believers. Unfortunately, not all believers experience the freedom of this law of liberty through ignorance. The Holy Spirit is given to change that ignorance and confusion into cognizance of the greatest life given to mankind.

Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus - HS witnesses doctrine to the divine new spirit which influences the soul, more specifically the heart, which influences the mind which influences the body. The volition chooses for this by taking every thought as a prisoner of war under the scrutiny of Christ's obedience and victory through that obedience. The Mosaic Law put demands on the flesh, and being sinful, the flesh was only condemned by the Law.

ROM 8:3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

ROM 8:4 in order that the requirement of the Law [perfect righteousness] might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

ROM 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

"according to" - kata, [kata] = after the manner of [Vine's]; habitually dominated by [Wuest].

These have their minds set upon, or set their purposes on the flesh. But those who are after the manner of the Spirit, in other words, choose the life of the Spirit and are motivated to do so, set their purposes or thoughtful goals on the things of the Spirit.

This reveals the cyclical nature of desire in that it feeds itself. Opinion and passion have reciprocal influence on one another.

Opinions are the objects to which passions attach themselves and with greater passion comes stronger opinions. Flesh or Spirit?

Whatever we set as our manner of life in our conscience, it is that which we will purpose or set our minds upon, dwell upon, think and plan so as to accomplish. This in turn feeds the desire or passion and so our desires or passions, whether towards the flesh or the Spirit gain momentum.

ROM 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death [darkness, slumber], but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace [tranquility and rest],

EPH 5:14-15

For this reason it says,

"Awake, sleeper,

And arise from the dead,

And Christ will shine on you."

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise,

ROM 8:7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so;

ROM 8:8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

ROM 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh [crucified with Christ; the flesh is no longer your position] but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

ROM 8:10 And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness [imputed at salvation].

ROM 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life [spiritual life in the old body] to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you.

ROM 8:12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh —

ROM 8:13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body [sin and human good], you will live [spiritual life].

ROM 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

ROM 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

ROM 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

ROM 8:17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.

ROM 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

The suffering is temporary. There is an end in sight in which our resurrected senses will drink up the glory of God, which cannot be compared to the suffering of the present time. So until that time are you willing to fight the flesh, the world, and the KOD with the surpassing power of God and be diligent to enter His rest?

When God finished His Creation, it was a good Creation (GEN 1:31); but today it is a groaning Creation. There is suffering and death; there is pain, all of which is, of course, the result of Adam's sin. It is not the fault of creation. Note the words that Paul used to describe, the plight of creation: suffering (ROM 8:18), futility (ROM 8:20), slavery (ROM 8:21), corruption [decay] (ROM 8:21), and pain (ROM 8:22).

However, this groaning is not a useless thing - Paul compared it to a woman in travail. There is pain, but the pain will end when the child is delivered. One day creation will be delivered, and the groaning creation will become a glorious creation; not just good but glorious!
