The doctrine of glorifying God, Part 5, John 15:8.

Class Outline:

Title: The doctrine of glorifying God, Part 5, John 15:8.

The first and most important aspect of the believer glorifying God.

1. Growing to spiritual maturity by means of the mystery doctrine and the filling of the HS whereby the believer produces fruit glorifies God.

What follows would all necessarily fall under this category since everything that I will subsequently document all occur by means of spiritual growth.

a. Believing the promises of God gives glory to God, ROM 4:20,

Application of faith to the promises of God is the function of the faith rest drill, problem solving device #3.

Faith rest drill: PSD #3.

1. Claim a promise and mix it with faith

2. Apply a doctrine that supports the promise

3. Rest in God’s virtue and faithfulness [tranquility].

Doctrines that support God’s promises all center around His character. A promise is a good as the One who can be trusted.

Doctrines that support promises:

Essence of God

Plan of God

A fortiori

Grace orientation - the policy of God

Supreme Court of Heaven (advocacy of Christ)

Dispensationalism

By applying faith to what God has promised through His word and provided by means of His grace you accomplish the first stage of the faith rest technique, 2Cor 5:7.

2 Cor 5:7

for we walk by faith, not by sight [your lifestyle becomes one of faith in God’s word].

The second stage of the FRD is to apply a doctrine concerning God’s character and then enter into His rest, HEB 4:10.

HEB 4:1 Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.

HEB 4:2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.

HEB 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said [PSA 95:11],

"AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH,

THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST [LAND OF CANAAN],"

although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Their place of rest was Canaan, but they spent 40 years in the desert, 39 year roaming around Kadesh-Barnea because they refused to believe the promises of God.

God has given us promises, many of which are specific to the Church. God has given us hundreds of examples of faith by the visible heroes of the OT. Therefore in this passage Canaan for us becomes the PPOG where we handle stress, adversities, and the problems of life and there is a day to day rest from our works as we rely on God’s works.

The question is, will you be like Caleb and Joshua or will you be like the other ten?

NUM 13:17 When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, "Go up there into the Negev; then go up into the hill country. [This is a test of the emergency broadcast system. This is only a test]

NUM 13:18 And see what the land is like, and whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many.

NUM 13:19 And how is the land in which they live, is it good or bad? And how are the cities in which they live, are they like open camps or with fortifications?

NUM 13:20 "And how is the land, is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? Make an effort then to get some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

All twelve of them should have said at this point, “Why? Who cares who is there? God promised this for us.”

NUM 13:21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, at Lebo-hamath.

NUM 13:22 When they had gone up into the Negev, they came to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

NUM 13:23 Then they came to the valley of Eshcol and from there cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes; and they carried it on a pole between two men, with some of the pomegranates and the figs.

NUM 13:24 That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

NUM 13:25 When they returned from spying out the land, at the end of forty days,

They covered about 15 mile a day, give or take.

[slide - route of the spies]

NUM 13:26 they proceeded to come to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and they brought back word to them and to all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

NUM 13:27 Thus they told him, and said, "We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey [as God promised], and this is its fruit.

NUM 13:28 Nevertheless, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

Hold on “ten” and “the rest of Israel,” didn’t Go say to you:

LEV 20:24

'Hence I have said to you, "You are to possess their land, and I Myself will give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey." I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from the peoples.

To you as well Church-age believer:

REV 2:26-28

'And he who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations;  and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father; and I will give him the morning star.

The order of the morning star is the highest decoration that a believer can receive. It is the ultimate back stage pass. It is the Medal of Honor. And its implications are eternal. You might think it’s worth it.

NUM 13:29 Amalek is living in the land of the Negev and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill country, and the Canaanites are living by the sea and by the side of the Jordan."

NUM 13:30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we shall surely overcome it."

A great leader does not guarantee a great people.

NUM 13:31 But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us."

When a believer lacks faith in the promises of God he is one of the ten that spews flat out lies about the character and nature of God.

NUM 13:32 So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size.

NUM 13:33 There also we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

NUM 14:1 Then all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night.

The proper response would have been, “Nonsense!”

Those without faith always blame someone else for their self-induced misery.

NUM 14:2 And all the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness!

NUM 14:3 "And why is the LORD  bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?"

NUM 14:4 So they said to one another, "Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt."

This becomes a pivotal point for every believer. When the heat in the kitchen gets great do you go back to the cosmic system or do you stick and stay?

John 6:66-69

As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew, and were not walking with Him anymore. Jesus said therefore to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?"  Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. "And we have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God."

NUM 14:5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces in the presence of all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel.

NUM 14:6 And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes;

NUM 14:7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, "The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.

NUM 14:8 If the LORD  is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it to us —  a land which flows with milk and honey.

NUM 14:9 Only do not rebel against the LORD ; and do not fear the people of the land, for they shall be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the LORD  is with us; do not fear them."

Defense mechanism: acting out.

NUM 14:10 But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Then the glory of the LORD  appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel.

NUM 14:11 And the LORD  said to Moses, "How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst?

NUM 14:12 "I will smite them with pestilence and dispossess them, and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they."

They all saw the same big people, their armies, and the greatly fortified cities surrounded with thick walls. But there were two different conclusions.

When did God complete His work in HEB 4:3? He completed it from the foundation of the world so there is nothing to add to it.

In eternity past, God provided in grace everything the believer needs in human history to handle adversity, including the faith rest drill.

HEB 4:4 For He has thus said somewhere concerning the seventh day, "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS";

HEB 4:5 and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST."

HEB 4:6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,

HEB 4:7 He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before,

"TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,

DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."

HEB 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest [conquering the land didn’t end the adversity], He would not have spoken of another day after that.

HEB 4:9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God [God must continue to fight for us and we rest behind Him].

HEB 4:10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

HEB 4:11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall through following the same example of disobedience.
