Doctrine of the indwelling Christ part 14. The rebound technique – the grace to maintain communion with God.

Class Outline:

Title: Doctrine of the indwelling Christ part 14. The rebound technique - the grace to maintain communion with God.

1 John 1:9If we [3rd class - maybe you will and maybe you wont] confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

“confess” - present active subjunctive of o(mologew[homologeo] = to cite, admit, acknowledge, or to state in a trial.

Naming or citing a sin is a non-meritorious function. It doesn’t emphasize the sinner but the one who paid for the sin. Therefore, if you add popular things like, “I feel sorry, I’ll never do it again, I will make it up to you through penance, etc,” then you are adding work to the cross of Christ. It is finished!

The present tense tells us that this is something that should habitually occur when we commit a personal sin. The active voice means that you have to confess and no one can confess for you. The subjunctive mood means that maybe you will or won’t; it depends on your volition.

“sins” - a(martia[hamartia - plural] refers to personal sins in the three categories, mental, verbal, overt.

Obviously, if you are going to admit or acknowledge a sin to God you must know what that sin is. That means that there will be a lot of sins that you commit while you are growing spiritually that you are not aware of the fact that they are sins.

You are responsible for them because they come from your volition linked to your old sin nature, and therefore God holds you responsible for them. But you will be cleansed from the unknown sins when you confess the known sin or sins.

Guilt is an arrogant sin that attempts to add to the work of Christ. A guilt complex is sin parlayed into evil defense mechanisms.

1 John 1:9If we [3rd class - maybe you will and maybe you wont] confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive [cancel] us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God is perfect integrity. Faithful - God is consistent in forgiveness or cancellation. Righteous - God is integrity which was satisfied by Christ.

/ “cleanse us from all unrighteousness” - when we confess our known sins we are cleansed or purified from all unknown sins as well as any human good or evil emanated from the OSN.\

The verb translated “cleanse” is the aorist active subjunctive of katharizo. The gnomic aorist tense means that God does the same thing every time - He cleanses you the moment you confess.

The active voice means that God does the cleansing. This rules out all penance or making it up to God. You cannot cleanse yourself.

The subjunctive mood means that cleansing is based upon your use of the rebound technique. If you fail to rebound after sinning then you will not re-enter fellowship with God.

/Ignorance of doctrine tends to make the church lean on traditions that are completely against the teachings of God’s word.\

Now, verse 8 was written for those who claimed to be born without an OSN or that they were born inherently good.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

In verse 10 we have the claim that the person was born in sin but overcame that problem to reach sinless perfection and will never sin again. I have heard one guy teach this who was a doctrinal teacher for years and added it as PSD #11.

/ Verse 10 - instead of the illusion of inherent goodness we have the illusion of acquired goodness.\

1 John 1:10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

The illusion of acquiring sinless perfection is truly ironic since this claim can only be made in the cosmic system.

This is another part of Gnostic teaching that has lasted throughout the church in various cults and denominations.

By constantly contending that they are sinless these people continue to call God a liar and they do not embrace the word in love nor are they impregnated by it.

Many people like this have some gnosis or maybe even a lot of gnosis, but it has only been acquired under arrogance and approbation lust.

/Rebound procedure:

(1) Name it, 1Jn 1:9

(2) Isolate it, HEB 12:15 \

/HEB 12:15

See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; \

The trouble is self-induced misery from blaming others for your failure, feeling victimized, gaining a guilt complex, etc. from the bitterness within. 1Jn 1:8 says I’m born with inherent sin and verse 10 says I will never attain sinless perfection. Cite the sin and isolate it as your own decision to go against God’s will. It’s not someone else’s fault that you sinned nor is it the fault of whatever circumstances you found yourself in.

/ (3) Forget the sin:   Phil 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, \

Don’t handicap yourself from your forward progress. Even if you have been victimized in a situation, by continuing to live in the past you will continue in more sins such as bitterness, vindictiveness, guilt, hatred, malice, gossip, maligning, or slander.

MASs stifle spiritual momentum, therefore by continuing to hold on to them you are only hurting yourself. Forget the sin and move on.

/ (4) Keep moving forward: Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. \

Remember the sole purpose of rebound. It is not a license to sin nor is it a means of focusing on your own sins or the sins of others. It is a grace procedure given so that you may remain on the playing field, so that you remain in the PPOG, so that you quickly recover fellowship with God.

2 John 8 Watch yourselves [rebound when necessary], that you might not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward.

2 John 9 Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.

Corrected translation:

/“Look out for yourselves that you may not lose your momentum which you have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. No one has fellowship with God who keeps advancing out of bounds and does not remain on the playing field through the doctrine of Christ.” \

You can’t score a touchdown by running out of bounds. God has given us grace procedures in what we term the mystery doctrine of the Church-age. Christ indwells your body and as such you are the temple of God for the purpose of glorifying God. We must use God’s problem solving devices and not the ones passed down to us from the world system.

Next we have implications of rebounding.

/ #1 Instruction on how to avoid shame at the judgment seat of Christ. \

1 John 2:24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning doctrine retained through continued PV]. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father [social life with God - continued fellowship].

1 John 2:25And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.

/Verse 25 emphasizes that life with God for all eternity is going to be wonderful. The way in which you spend your life in time will determine the extent of blessing in eternity.\

1 John 2:26These things I have written to you [non face to face] concerning those who are trying to deceive you.

John is the non-resident pastor of several churches in the Roman province of Asia. The deception is Gnosticism and it is coming from others who desire attention, hence the importance of self-motivation.

/You cannot remain in the plan of God for your life as long as your motivation is based upon inspiration from someone else.\

Deception is mixed with seduction. There are those who intend to seduce and then to deceive, and often, flattery is involved. But seduction doesn’t work without the existence of lust or desire in the one being seduced, hence the importance of contentment with yourself and your circumstances right now.

/You will not remain in the plan of God for your life if you are malcontent, unhappy, or miserable. If you are not content now you will not be content if something changes.\

Why? Contentment of happiness is found in a system of thinking and not in the increase of stuff, or the absence of problems, or the loss of weight, etc.

Some people will be upset with you if you are content because it convicts their unhappiness or they are jealous for it.

Therefore, the only defense against seduction is PVTD.

1 John 2:27And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him [it - the plan of God].

/Every believer is anointed at salvation with the indwelling of the HS and the filling of the HS. There is no “second anointing.”\

We lose the F/HS when we sin and recover His filling when we rebound. We can never lose the indwelling Spirit.

There are certain denominations of Christianity that claim a second anointing and it is usually in connection with speaking in tongues, which was a temporary spiritual gift which has ceased before the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.

Then we have: “you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things”

Gnostics claimed that they were taught by angels. Therefore John emphasizes that the believer doesn’t need revelation from angels or directly from God as in dreams or visions as occurred to certain ones in the OT. Because of the filling of the Spirit we receive personal revelation from Him concerning the doctrines that have been written.

/God the HS is the believer’s true teacher of doctrine as it is communicated by the pastor-teacher. The local assembly is the classroom.\

God’s word recorded by inspiration is the truth and the cosmic system is the lie. Abide in the plan of God. Rebound when necessary.

/If we don’t abide in the plan of God, which is synonymous with fellowship with God, if we cannot solve our own problems, if we do not remain self-motivated and self-content then we will have an awful time at the judgment seat of Christ. \

The judgment seat of Christ should be a remarkable time of enjoyment for the believer. It should be like a commencement or graduation where you are the valedictorian. It should be a time of anticipated glee and excitement.

Here it is. Everything you have done or accomplished will be revealed by Christ and for the first time you will see the magnitude of its effects in the world. This is your life. Imagine that instead of being a time of joy and awesomeness and reward that it’s a time of embarrassment.

Ashamedness: Introductory remarks

One of the most important thoughts in life relates to your general attitude toward wasted life versus a life that counts. Most people wake up one day and realize that they have wasted their lives. This happens in youth and has more probability as we get older. This is especially true of young people who have no priorities that are meaningful, no scale of values, and are feeling their way through life with the impulses of sex, emotion, and general stupidity. By general stupidity I am not referring one’s human IQ or even spiritual IQ, it is simply the fact that young people first of all do not know what they want to do in life, and secondly they do not know where they are going, and thirdly they therefore immediately assume that the highest goal of life is to find some pleasure, to have daily pleasure - to party, to live it up, to have a very strong sex and social life - and as a result their priorities are very confused. They have no permanent values as illustrated by the tremendous amount of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual perverseness, and a general atmosphere for anything goes. It’s easy to blame parents, and sometimes they are at fault, but often it is simply a continued state of degeneracy in this country.

Sooner or later everyone has what is called a close shave. That is, a close call with death. They become death conscious for perhaps a very short time, and during the death consciousness they have the opportunity of looking back over their lives in retrospection, even though it may be a very short life, and asking some very simple questions. What have I done? Where have I gone? What has been meaningful about my life? What kind of an impression has my life made on history? What have I done that is significant in life? What have I done but pander myself and seek pleasure and therefore lose out on anything that is meaningful?

Of course, you can over think and overreact to that and get in some form of extreme morality asceticism which is just as meaningless as the so-called hell raising aspect of life. But between these two extremes there must be some meaning in life, and especially since you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Since the day that you have believed in Christ you have come under logistical grace support. That means that God has provided for you every support system that makes life meaningful. He has provided everything in the spiritual realm, including doctrine, God the HS, a right pastor, everything that is necessary for momentum in His plan. He has also provided systems of graduated happiness, happiness in every sense of the word. Not only happiness but also a happiness related to something permanent in the way of satisfaction and in having a meaningful life. He also has provided not only a plan but He has related your life to whether we continue as a client nation or not. To be a believer in a client nation has great significance because as goes the believer, so goes the client nation.

We are observing in our country today some of the greatest tragedies and disasters of all time and unless there is a change we are going to lose our client nation status, and that will be the end of our nation as we have known it. Certainly we are moving in that direction. So that the life of every believer becomes meaningful, not only nationally as an impact on history, but individually as having impact in life. The strange thing is that what you do, the decisions you make, the thoughts that you have, the priorities that you establish in your soul are going to make all the difference with regard to eternity. There is no equality in heaven. Some people in heaven are going to have inferior resurrection bodies and some are going to have superior resurrection bodies. Some are going to have great decorations forever and some are going to have none. The degree to which you have glorified the Lord Jesus Christ in the modus operandi of the divine plan, which is the Christian way of life, to that degree your life is meaningful now and fantastic in eternity.

We have now approached the verse that deals with the fact that in a resurrection body there will be for at least one short period of time ashamedness, where the believer will be disgraced, ashamed; things that ordinarily are not associated with the resurrection body.

No matter how insignificant your place in life may be, no matter how low on the totem pole you may be located as far as birth, function, job, opportunities, etc., if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ God has a purpose for your life. The manifestation of that fact is that you are being sustained and supported on a daily basis in the midst of one of the greatest waves of historical degeneration, a wave of historical degeneration that has been created by the idiotic liberal attitude about races, a degeneracy whereby we are catering to minorities instead of bringing everyone into equal opportunity as Americans. Nothing could worse for minorities than to cater to them. The very fact that we continue to have racial issues and class warfare is a sign that the utilization of freedom on the part of some has generally failed.

Our freedom can be used to make us failures or successes. This is what is in view in verses 28 and 29.

In verse 28 we have eternal blessing; in verse 29 we have temporal blessing.

1 John 2:28And now [if you are alive you still have time], little children, abide in Him [fellowship with God and residing in the plan of God], so that when He appears [Rapture], we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.

To have shame you must have cognizance of what was right and what was wrong. The context here is at the judgment seat of Christ which occurs directly after the Rapture of the Church, where our decisions to live the CWL or not will be evaluated.

Out of the thousands and thousands of believers in attendance, making up the entire church, there will be a portion who will lose rewards due to negative volition. To be ashamed means that they will also be cognizant of God’s logistical grace support, that God provided everything they needed in EP/EO to execute the plan of God.

/Cognizance of all potential will exist for all believers when they are face to face with the Lord and minus an OSN.\

All believers receive a resurrection body. Some are inferior to others because they have chosen to ignore the plan of God or were hostile towards the plan of God in grace for their lives.

When you are standing at the judgment seat of Christ and you have an inferior resurrection body, and you have no decorations, you will also have at the same time a complete understanding of what was required and how you were supported. You will understand from logistical grace how magnificently God supported you and gave you every opportunity to make right decisions to open options for greater decisions throughout your Christian life.

1 John 2:28And now [if you are alive you still have time], little children, abide in Him [ “it” fellowship with God and residing in the plan of God], so that when He appears [Rapture], we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
